I Won’t Contest 2015 Elections ! by wales(m): 6:16am On Feb 01, 2011 |
President Goodluck Jonathan has assured Nigerians in the Diaspora that though he will not contest the 2015 elections, he will ensure a free and fair elections, beginning from the April polls this year. He has also assured that if voted in for the next four years, he would ensure significant improvement in key sector of the economy, security, power, education, road, health amongst others. “Without security there is no government. So, it is not debatable, it is something we have to address and we are working towards that with vigour. But if I’m voted into power within the next four years the issue of power will become a thing of the past. Four years is enough for anyone in power to make significant improvement and if I can’t improve on power within this period, it then means I cannot do anything even if I am there for the next four years.” President Jonathan said this while interacting with Nigerians mainly diplomats working in the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the African Union (AU). While fielding questions from those present at the interactive session on whether Nigerians abroad would vote, President Jonathan said: “I would have loved that Nigerians in the Diaspora vote this year but to be frank with you, that is going to be difficult now. Presently the law does not allow the voting outside Nigeria and so this year, Nigerians in the Diaspora will not vote but I will work towards it by 2015 even though I will not be running for election.” On the issue of security, President Jonathan said the government was doing everything possible to arrest the situation. He disclosed that all those involved in the October 1 bombing had been arrested and being prosecuted. He, however, said he ordered the release of the car dealers because they were just businessmen who could not have known that the vehicles were to be used for such heinous crime. The President, while speaking on education, said the nine newly approved universities were to be specialised and to be headed by, at least, three Nigerians experts in the Diaspora. On the concerns raised of having a database of Nigerian experts in the Diaspora, President Jonathan assured that he was working on creating a forum for interaction between them and government and also develop a database, where experts needed to address the various challenges of the economy would be drawn. He hinted that this was why the Diaspora Commission was being set up as the bill was already before the National Assembly. The President also disclosed that the government was looking towards reviewing the country’s foreign policy to ensure that Nigeria got maximum benefit from its roles and contributions to international organisations like the AU, UN and ECOWAS. Jonathan lamented that right now Nigeria’s contributions were not being recognised, adding that “there is need for Nigeria to have something in return for our investments. We are investing so much but it is not being noticed and there is need to reverse that trend.” Addressing the concerns about road network and transportation in the country, the president assured that the railway system would be revamped because presently heavy duty vehicles were destroying the roads. “Why we cannot have continuous road maintenance for now is because no contractor wants to go into it because of the continuous pressure on the road by heavy duty vehicles. That is why we are working to ensure that we revamp the rail.” He also assured that Nigerians working in international organisations and institutions would be issued diplomatic passports. He directed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Odein Ajumogobia, to submit the list of those qualified within the shortest possible time to him. On the 35 per cent affirmative action implementation and the domestication of protocols signed, he assured that he would present before the National Assembly within the shortest possible time. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/feb/01/national-01-02-2011-01.htm

wales: Please, is the bold parts correct? Does GEJ understand what a diplomatic passport is used for? Okay, so those guys in Lagos at the UN office working for an international organization would be issued a diplomatic passport, why not all the Nigerians working in multinational companies outside Nigeria. This guy is totally clueless! |

I hope this man knows what impression he's creating-although whoever is electing PDP again or expecting anything positive from any of their candidate is fool forever. uncle, if know who u are, i will definitely sue u for piracy. what u did above was just pirating what i had in mind. how long wld these criminals take us for fools? how can a normal man who is coursing different problems in nigeria today is here to lie for us again. jonathan is silently desperate to rule nigeria for breaking the zoning agreement that has finally solved the problem of marginalization in nigeria? God in heaven will not forgive jonathan and his family for all these untimely deaths here and there. in his regime, nigeria is gradually becoming a bomb zone. it is a shame that the man is even more interested in what the international communities have to say abt him. u are telling nigerians in egypt to come back? is our peaceful nigeria more peaceful than the trouble egypt, tunisia and ivory coast? nigeria is heading to a war and u are talking abt 2015, who among us will be here then if things continue the way they are now? pdp is a failure and that they have proved to nigerians in the past 12 yrs. i am from imo state and have nothing to do with tribalism but a spade must be call a spade. it is most shameful that this desperate jonathan will allow himself to be used by these broad day light criminals in nigeria to cover all their crimes. no wonder all the criminals in pdp are peacefully enjoying their loots and working for more. nigerians are quiet and gentle, but i know that anyday, we enter the streets, there will be no going back. |

Re: I Won’t Contest 2015 Elections ! by Gbawe: 2:23pm On Feb 01, 2011 |
this statement , at best , is political naiveness of the highest order or , as usual , an attempt by Jonathan to keep everyone on board his inducement train. Mr. President is entitled to two terms of 4 years. Why , this far away from 2015 , prematurely limit yourself to one term when , once some major policies are inaugurated, there may be a need for him to stay in office beyond 2015? I am inclined to believe as many have posited that Jonathan is simply currying for votes as per the pledges he has made to get the support that has gotten him this far. knowing how desperate GEJ is , with how he is supported by ultra decietful folks like OBJ and Anenih, it is possible Jonathan has pledged the 2015 Presidency to both the SE and the North. By reminding everyone he is only staying for one term , when he is under no pressure whatsoever to do so , Jonathan may be indirectly pleading for continuous support and extended loyalty from those who have gotten him to his current position as the PDP candidate. |

i am not a PRO-ZONING campaigner, but with the timid attitude of GEJ. it clearly shown that there is a zoning agreement in PDP, they only trying to push it aside! |

Jonathan is clearly a failure. His few months in office is enough; reckless spending of public funds, unnecessary appointments, 100s if not thousands of unnecessary special advisers and assistants earning fat salaries and looting the nation dry, increase in insecurity, PHCN is even worst than before man! Quickly, I've changed my mind about him. All this stupid luck of his will not lead Nigeria to any promise land. It will only better the lot of his family more and more. |
