From the Epistles of Paul we understand that he knew Jesus through visions and no physical encounter when Jesus was alive.

Where was he (Paul) when Jesus was alive, I thought he could have heard about Jesus during his life time, his miracles, etc since bible recorded that his fame went round about all Israel.

And when Jesus was alive he wasnt preaching Jesus, He was only preaching salvation and the likes , but when he died his disciples started preaching with his name which every one considered as blasphemy so the news grew more than the good news of Jesus himself that was why the Paul who was a Roman decided to take order to go and deal with them.

NOTE: Mind you The Roman were the ones rulling the Israelite at that time

Considering the fact that he was old enough to persecute the apostles even unto death, I'm sure he would have been old enough as at the time of Jesus.

Such a man should/could have heard about someone doing miracles called Jesus or when he triumphantly entered Jerusalem and chased away those buying and selling in synagogue or about his execution on the cross.

Paul was a Jew from the tribe of Benjamin.

He was possibly around sef. Jesus was percieved as a prophet in those days. Nobody really persecuted them until after the resurrection so it's possible he was in 'law school' of Gamaliel and heard about one Prophet Jesus.

Since Paul was a pharisee he was surely aware of Jesus even before the crucifiction, but since the San Hedrin had already decided to kill Jesus somehow, there was no need for Paul to do anything at that time.

Not every one believed in christ in his lifetime. Even some of his family members didn't believe in him either.

Thks I understand your point, although he was born in Tarsus he was brought up in Jerusalem and during the persecution, [b]he was a young man not a young boy

He would probably be above 20, he was very zealous in Jewish religion, he could have easily heard something about Jesus, most especially when he came triumphantly into Jerusalem, both old and young called him Messiah, some women even laid their cloths on the way and was such a huge event.

If Paul /Saul was a young adult in Jerusalem at the time Jesus was alive and never heard of his fame

If he had visions of Jesus ONLY

If his epistles were written before the gospel

and If the gospels were written many years after Jesus died

Were the gospels written to fill the gaps in the Epistles so as to create religion?
