Women are not just Home Builders but also Nation Builders. Gone are the days when the statement “The place of a Woman is in the kitchen” thrives, now we see women who achieve extraordinary feats in male-dominated environments.

Nigerian women are generally recognized as ambitious, courageous and beautiful. Some Nigerian women have made great impacts not just locally but also internationally. In no particular order here is a list of 7 Nigerian women who are recognized internationally



Omotola Jalade Ekehinde
Known generally as “Omo Sexy’’, Omotola is an actress, singer, philanthropist and former model. Born 7th February 1978, She has been in over 300 Nollywood movies ever since her Nollywood film debut in 1995.

In 2013, Omotola Ekehinde was honoured in the Time Magazine list of ‘the 100 most influential people in the world’. She is a model figure for young female Nigerians because of how well she does in balancing her family and career.



Genevieve Nnaji
Born 3rd May 1979, Genevieve Nnaji is an actress, producer and director. Genevieve has won numerous national and international awards, her recent work “Lionheart” was featured on Netflix making it the first Nigerian movie to be shown on Netflix.

Genevieve is known for her beauty, excellent acting and articulation skills. She is bringing Nollywood into the limelight.

Agbani Darego
When it comes to top models in Nigeria, Agbani Darego is still a force to reckon with.

Agbani Darego was born on the 22nd of December 1982, and in 2001 she became the first Indigenous African to be crowned “Miss World”. Decades from then, Agbani Darego still remains a strong influence in her field, she is a source of inspiration to many young Nigerian models.


Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage is arguable one of the best Nigerian Female Artiste. Born on the 5th of February 1980, Tiwa is recognized internationally as an exceptional singer and songwriter.

In November 2018, Tiwa Savage won the “Best African Act” at The MTV Europe Music Awards making her the first woman to win that award.


Chimamanda Adichie
You can’t mention prominent Nigerian authors without including Chimamanda Adichie. Born on the 15th, September 1977, Chimamanda is recognized internationally as a novelist, writer and activist.

Chimamanda is currently one of the richest and most influential Nigerian authors, she is the youngest African and only Nigerian to be awarded the prestigious UN Global Leadership Awards by the United Nations.


Folorunsho Alakija
Born on the 15th of July, 1951. Folorunsho Alakija is ranked by Forbes as the richest woman in Nigeria and the top ten richest in Africa. Folorunsho Alakija area of influence is in fashion, real estate and oil.

She is an exceptional mother, wife and grandmother. Folorunsho is known to always give motivational speeches to Nigerian youths to stay focused on their goals.



Ngozi Okonjo Iweala
Ngozi Okonjo Iweala is a two-term financial minister of Nigeria, politician and economist. Born on the 13th of June, 1954, Ngozi has had a 25 years career at the World Bank in Washington DC as a development economist.

Ngozi has been involved in the positive growth of Nigeria’s economy. In April 2020 Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala was appointed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a member of the newly established External Advisory Group.



This is just a few of the number of notable Nigerian women. Nigeria has produced a good number of amazing women who are making waves in the political, music and economical industry both locally and internationally.
