Obiano sets up panel to investigate killing of policeman, others in communal clash

The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has set up an panel
to investigate the killing of a policeman and others in a communal clash in the state

The conflict was between Odekpe and Ala na Olugwa communities in the Anambra West Local Government Area of the state.

The panel is headed by the traditional ruler of Igbariam, in the Anambra East Local Government Area, Igwe Nkeli Nzekwe, while Dr Emman Ude Akpeh is secretary.

A report from the office of the governor obtained by our reporter on Monday read in part," The Governor has set up a panel to resolve every community crisis in Anambra.

"Already the panel has started to play a vital role, helping to rebuild trust at the community level and re-establish a culture of peace between Odekpe and Ala na Olugwa communities in Anambra West LGA.

"Earlier this year, the Odekpe and Ala na Olugwa communities entered into a conflict as a result of their longtime lingering land issues which rapidly evolved, creating a dire humanitarian situation that resulted in large numbers of displaced civilians, property damages worth of millions of naira and death of a police officer.

"This led to the arrest of the Igwe elect of Odekpe community, Ikechi Azubike and one of the youths of the community and taken to Abuja for interrogation.

The report said the panel had secured the release of the traditional of Odepe community and others arrested at wake of the conflict.
