Whether Epididymitis Or Testicular Cancer? by AriannaaJones: 11:20am On Jul 10, 2020
There are many similarities between epididymitis and testicular cancer. If we don't really understand them, it will cause misdiagnosis and mistreatment, and seriously affect the treatment of patients. What are the differences between epididymitis and testicular cancer?

Epididymitis

1. Population:

Epididymitis can be divided into acute epididymitis and chronic epididymitis according to the course of the disease. Acute epididymitis is mainly caused by urinary system inflammation, prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis spreading along the vas deferens to epididymis, blood infection is rare.

It is easy to cause epididymitis by urethral instrument operation, frequent catheterization, and indwelling catheter after prostatectomy. Incomplete treatment of acute epididymitis can be converted into chronic epididymitis.

2. Symptoms:

Epididymitis is mainly manifested in the sudden severe pain of the testicles attached to the scrotum, which can radiate to the groin area and lower abdomen, and the pain increases when moving or standing. In severe cases, it is accompanied by general discomfort, shivering, fever, etc. The volume of the epididymis can increase several times in 3-4 hours, and the temperature of the epididymis can rise to 38-40 ℃.

3. Harms:

Epididymitis can lead to the death of sperm, azoospermia, and infertility, and it can infect the inflammatory bacteria to the spouse, cause gynecological diseases, and cause great harm to the wife; at the same time, epididymitis is easy to induce various serious diseases, such as varicocele, varicositis, prostatitis, endocrine diseases, nephritis, etc., which can lead to malignant tumors or even threaten the life of men.

4.Treatment:

Antibiotics should be determined by bacterial culture and drug sensitivity tests. The commonly used drugs are compound SMZ, norfloxacin, and cephalosporins, which have a good curative effect. Generally, in the acute stage(the first 3-4 days), we should rest in bed.

The application of scrotal support can alleviate the symptoms. The self-made large scrotal support with the cotton pad will be more comfortable to use. Severe pain can be treated with painkillers. Local hyperthermia can relieve symptoms and promote inflammation to subside.

However, early use of hot compresses can aggravate pain and promote the spread of infection, so it is advisable to use ice bags for a local cold compresses. You can also choose to take herbal medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill, which has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification, promoting diuresis and relieving stranguria, to effectively resist bacteria and eliminate inflammation without any side effects on the human body. Sexual life and physical work will aggravate the condition, so it should be avoided.

Testicular cancer

At present, testicular cancer is a solid malignant tumor with the highest cure rate in the clinic. Even if the patients have metastasis, there is a high clinical cure chance through operation, combined radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Therefore, it needs to be emphasized that the goal of treatment for testicular cancer is to achieve a cure, not to alleviate or prolong the survival time.

1. Population:

Testicular cancer is more common in men aged 15-35. The incidence varies widely around the world, with the higher being seen in many European countries and the lower in the Far East, including China. The incidence is six people / 100000 men per year, but the incidence is increasing year by year. Cryptorchidism and virus infection are risk factors for testicular cancer.

2. Symptoms:

Most of the patients with testicular cancer were treated for testicular swelling, accompanying symptoms include heaviness or pain; severe pain is rare. Because testicular cancer usually leads to a decline in the number of sperm, sometimes patients will see a doctor for infertility.

About 25% of the patients came to see a doctor because of the symptoms caused by tumor metastasis. The clinical manifestations of metastasis include back pain, shortness of breath, chest pain, or hemoptysis.

3. Harms:

Testicular cancer normally affects young and middle-aged men. Although the cure rate is high, it has a great impact on society and family. The treatment of testicular cancer requires the removal of the testicles. The subsequent retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy will bring corresponding adverse reactions, which may affect the reproductive function of the patients.

In all, chemotherapy and radiotherapy can reduce fertility by about 30%, of which radiotherapy has the greatest impact. In addition, a few (about 2-3%) testicular cancer patients are bilateral lesions.

4. Treatment:

There are many ways to treat testicular cancer, including radical orchiectomy, retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy, adjuvant radiotherapy, intravenous chemotherapy, and so on. The cure rate of testicular cancer is very high. Through comprehensive treatment, the survival rate can reach 95% or even higher.

Through the above introduction, we have a deeper understanding of epididymitis and testicular cancer. We should make a serious distinction to avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment. At ordinary times, we should be vigilant to prevent this disease.
