Lagos traffic is one of the most dreaded traffic congestion in Nigeria and as well in Africa. One could spend an entire day in Lagos traffic if they are not lucky. You have to know when to come out and to leave for home if you want to enjoy Lagos.
According to Numbeo, Lagos ranks number one in Africa, when it comes to traffic congestion and quality of life. Although TomTom ranks South Africa in 2019 as number one in Africa but yes we are looking at Lagos today.

The hack about Lagos traffic congestion is quite an easy one if things are right but irrespective of what you do and who you are, Lagos traffic humbles everyone. Bear it in mind that before you leave for a place in Lagos, you have to be ready.

Lagos is the most populated city in Nigeria with a figure of about fourteen million people. The city also one of the most populated in Africa.

Maps/Navigators

Map navigation
If you do not know how to use one this maps, you have to learn and it probably one of many steps to avoid gridlocks and traffic congestion. Few people in Lagos use this in other to know what route to use and the one not to use at that moment. Waze or Google maps for mobile phones are probably one of the best to use in preloading traffic data towards your destination, although Google owns these two products. With this one can determine where to take before they begin their journey.

Rush hours

Rush hour in Lagos
If you know rush hours, you will know that these times are the no joking time which basically consist of workers who have to resume their jobs on or before 7 am and also close work on or before 5 pm. These times are to be beaten, either you leave before 7 am or 5 pm or leave after these times. Sometimes I find myself asking my colleagues why they are rushing home when they know they are still going to get stocked in the traffic.

You live in Lagos, you should know days with less traffic congestion, do not worry I will get you through it…

Mondays surprisingly have got not too heavy traffic congestions as people are still in their weekend moods, it applies to and fro. So we give it a 50% traffic congestion day.

Tuesdays are the traffic-congestion-overlord-day as people have woken up their hustling spirit, you will be shocked with the number of vehicles out on the road when you head out in the morning, evenings are probably the worst. So we give it a 92% traffic congestion day.

Wednesdays relates with Tuesdays but a tad bit lesser than Tuesdays, mornings could be free and evenings could be tied up, either ways it’s a little off Tuesdays. So we give it a 79% traffic congestion day.

Thursdays are days for congestions relaxation as markets do not have to resume till 10 am. This day is ought to be congestions free morning days because traders ply the Lagos roads more than any other persons. We giving Thursdays a 50% traffic congestion day.

Fridays is definitely a traffic congestion day but with a difference as everyone is on the weekend mood. People also tend to leave their place of work way to early than usual. Friday is also time for worship for the Muslims as they tend to go for their prayers, congestions only around worship places. Fridays are 68% traffic congestions day.

Saturdays are mild traffic day but there is a little bit of congestion which are few . So saturdays are pratically 48% traffic congestion day.

Sundays not to be related with congestions as many people are ought to be resting but we can not take away Sundays from Christians in Nigeria, so there will be tiny bits of congestions around places of worship.

*You should also be aware that these days are not always like this as accidents, weather events and so on may affect these schedules.

Prepare for some entertainment

Food at traffic congestions
Something to munch and crunch while in traffic congestion is one good thing. A list of some movies you will need a watch or want to watch again as you might eventually get stock for hours.

Lagos state has also made sure it is safe to use the waterways to get to various destinations.

These tips are also contextual but one should consider whether being early or being late before going out.
