Hierarchy of Hazard Control is a method used in industry to minimize or eradicate exposure to hazards. It is a widely accepted approach promoted by numerous safety organizations. The concept is taught to managers in industry to be propagated as standard practice in workplace. This hierarchy from the best to the least effective is "Elimination, Substitution, Engineering controls, Administrative controls and PPE.”

On the hierarchy, “Elimination” is best because it renders hazard extinct and “PPE” is least because what one can achieve at best is work with Personal Protective Equipments to contain hazards from release.

“PPE” is Personal Protective Equipment. It is protective clothing, helmet, hard hat, goggles or other garment/equipment designed to protect the wearer's body from injury or infection. The hazards contained by “PPE” include physical, electrical, heat, chemicals, biohazards and airborne particulate matter.
