Hi guys I realized that my Starcomms modem wasn't connecting online. I then decided to change the modem at my nearest Starcomms office in Surulere. When I gave my number to the pretty customer service lady, she informed me that nothing is wrong with my modem, but I have been BANNED.

She then asked me if I download movies, I said yes I do. She now informed me that my IP address was reported for downloading illegal content so I was therefore banned. She then gave me a form to fill, which I did and now I am back online.

Now my problems are:
Why does starcomms have to ban my account for downloading free movies online?
Is there a way I could be tracked for downloading movies? I use bit torrent?
Is there a way I could block myself from being tracked so I dont get banned again.

Downloading movies online is unfortunately one of my past times online.

dont be a Zap.i.n.g fool , you could even get as long as 5 yrs jail term for that, use a proxy or ip hider, dont go showing your ip everywhere , i am sure you get this warning on all the torrent u download, adios

Go to their office @ ikeja or surulere with your ID (international passport/drivers license/national ID card), recent utility bill, passport photograph.
There's a form u'll fill to register ur modem/account. . . . . once that is done, your accont wont be blocked again

Answer: Yes, you can be tracked, try not to use torrents, peer2peer clients like limewire etc. that promote piracy. If you must use them, try google to find out ways you can be anonymous online. I think back then I used a software called 'peer guardian' to shield me from privacy agencies that track p2p users.

Poor network, they always blamed it on me. I pay, it takes ages to credit my account, my modem once had a repair issue, they couldn't fix it and I had to get a new one. Plus, they ban accounts anyhow. My girlfriend got banned and she doesn't even check anything more than emails and they asked her to bring the original receipt which she couldn't find. That modem too is gathering dust in dark corner.
