I read your submission and you didn't quite strike the nail on the head. Obaseki is a hardsell and that is his undoing. He failed to carry state party leaders along and made a mess of peace moves by the Oba of Benin and State traditional rulers. He openly said Edo is not Lagos, and announced his defection from the APC at, of all places, the presidential villa. To cap off his political naivety, he announced that some APC governors are supporting him even after he defected to the PDP. Even if some APC governors supported him, they'd back out because they also have to consider their political future. A seasoned politician does not talk much even when he is performing, imagine if Tinubu is garrulous or Wike or Osinbajo. Obaseki talks too much and it was easy to neutralise him.

If only to teach Obaseki the lesson that you don't mess up people that supported you to become governor, it would be difficult for him to win that election.

Leave Tinubu out of this.
Couldn't have said it better than this.

It's a battle between the PDP south against APC south, plus Strategist Tinubu plus the Northern elites and army generals

Wike against The cabals. Forget it my boy

PDP are aware that wike has contacts, but in Nigeria, Bola plus the North reigns in every sector.

Whether Presidency, INEC, military, police, SSS, name them.

He should have declined this position. This is one battle He will lose woefully.

For that betrayal, he will learn a hard lesson, how he wasted all his savings. He should have asked Saraki, Dino, the North and Tinubu contact rocks.

You've got to love the former Lagos state Governor A..... He made the wisdom choice.

Look at Kogi governor who performed woefully, got reelected, what do you suppose?? The cabals. And he's winning election matter even in court.

Just forget it

Your analysis is unique. Kudos
[uthor=emkz post=92122380]

You asked me to help you understand what I meant, and you went on to insinuate what I intended. I'd have been happier if you had waited to let me clarify my submission before making suggestions which are not close to anything I ever had in mind.

To argue along your line of reasoning, take Lagos State for example. Tinubu and Fashola knew that it is impracticable to give their state party leaders money. So they gave them contracts that they could execute easily, the state refuse collection points PPP. This was very effective and the party leaders did the jobs and earned their daily living. Did the state governor give them money for doing nothing?

Now to Obaseki, he bluntly refused to inaugurate 14 state assembly members. Now, these members have their followers at grassroots whom he denied representation. Many of these people relied on these assembly members to help them or their wards go to school, get jobs and opportunities at the state level. Do you think these people would forget?

Now, he attempted to investigate his predecessor for financial impropriety in the execution of the central hospital. He actually did and convicted Oshiomole. Who does that? And you think seasoned politicians like Tinubu and Buhari would be dumb to support him? In addition, he foolishly condemned the appointment of the Pius Odubu-led NDDC board, claiming that Oshiomole appointed his cronies into the board without consulting him or Buhari. Pius Odubu is a Bini son and a former deputy governor. It would have been the first time an Edo son would be at the top echelon of NDDC management. Considering Oshiomole supported Obaseki against Odubu for governorship, it was only sensible for Obaseki to support Odubu into NDDC. Same Obaseki also claimed Oshiomole appointed all his commissioners for him. Who says that? We are aware that Tinubu has a considerable influence in determining Lagos commissioners, but you won't hear Fashola or Ambode or Sanwo-Olu come out to publicly say that.

Finally, the recurring personalities in Edo State politics within the last ten years are Pius Odubu, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Solomon Edebiri, Adams Oshiomole, Charles Airhiavbere and (I am sorry to say) Tony Kabaka, to mention a few. All these guys have money and they only want one thing: relevance. By relevance, they want to be involved in the scheme of things, because if they aren't, they'd wither and go into political oblivion. They want to be able to help their people get jobs, win scholarships and attract state projects to their domains. Is this necessarily a bad thing? Obaseki was running to Abuja politicians like Tony Momoh (who did his best to resolve the crisis), Tinubu (whom he once ridiculed that Edo is not Lagos) and Buhari (who never gives a hoot about these things). But he ignored state party leaders who are the ones that determine the tide of votes.

Did you see that these men do not want money shared to them but just want to feel involved?

Do you understand now?[/quote]
