The annual Osun festival has taken place in the state. The event took place on Saturday.

The festival took place in spite of the government’s directive on such public gatherings.

In Ogun state, the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Adetona this year cancelled the Ojude Oba festival that was to hold on August 2. The event was cancelled following the government’s ban on festivals.

The Ojude Oba festival is one of the most prestigious festivals to take place in Nigeria but was cancelled to avoid large gatherings that can further spread the already ravaging COVID-19.

Similarly in Ekiti, the state government placed a ban on all traditional festivals and large gatherings in places of worship such as churches and mosques.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi received devotees in his palace said this years festival was somewhat restricted because of the pandemic.

The Ooni said “Unlike the way we used to have it in Ife, we were forced to restrict this celebration which is a major festival in Ife. Our restriction made us ensure that we don’t create more problems while trying to solve the one at hand.
