The Chairman, Gwagwalada area council, Hon. Adamu Mustafa Danze has directed the residents in the area Council who lives close to River Bank to evacuate with immediate effect and the need of staying there is uncalled for.

Chairman who made the directive in a visit to the affected areas, said the way people build houses there is too close to flood Prone Areas is not safe and should be discouraged, "As of last year, we instructed the residents to evacuate from flood Prone Areas as their lives are important than anything else but today some are seeing themselves inside water and houses and properties destroyed by the flood.

"The flood happened last year and now it has repeated itself that serve as a massage that whatever that is worth doing is worth doing therefore, I advised you to evacuate in this River Bank because life first before talking about properties, flooding is a natural disaster that no one knows anything about, life have been lost, properties worth millions of naira lost as a result of this."

In Giri town, the chairman confided with the chief of Igbira who lost his brothers wife and four children, adding "We shall write a comprehensive report to the FCT administrators, the National Emergency Management (NEMA), Humanitarian Ministry, and other relevant agency for urgent intervention that will help to protect lives and properties and the need to assist the people out of ecological situation to rescue them in this nasty situations.

He said that the comparative of the affected household is still on and we can not ascertain how many houses were affected but all we know is that lives have been lost, properties are destroyed, electric pools destroyed to the extent that electricity installation cost a lot of amount. It's a natural calamity that, you and I cannot avoid, but if we take proactive actions, it will be minimal, the chairman cried out.

He synphatiszed with those who have lost their loved ones that God should replaced the lost properties while promising to collaborate with the minister of disaster management and FCT minister to cushion the effect of the disaster to the affected people in no distance time.

He urged the community Leaders to fine-tune arrangements in getting the people out of River prone environment "however, on our own at local government level, we will do our best to provide urgent palliatives since this is a democratic settings because the incident of this year comes without notice that have created havoc".
