The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) is preparing charges against Ibrahim Magu, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for allegedly failing to declare his assets, sources have informed TheCable.

This is completely different from the ongoing probe of his tenure at the EFCC by a presidential panel.

A source told TheCable that Magu would be arraigned at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), which handles the cases of public officials who fail to declare their assets.

His lawyer has denied the allegation that he did not declare his assets.

In 2019, the CCB filed a six-count charge of false assets declaration against Walter Onnoghen, former chief justice of Nigeria.

The CCT subsequently convicted him and he was barred from holding any public office for the next 10 years.

In a statement Wahab Shittu, his lawyer, issued on his behalf, Magu described the allegation of not declaring his assets as “gross misrepresentation and blatant falsehood”.

Magu’s travails followed a memo by Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), who accused him of grave malfeasance.

He was arrested and whisked before the panel sitting at the presidential villa in Abuja.

Magu, who was alleged to have mishandled recovered loot and sold seized assets to his associates, was detained at the Area 10 force criminal investigation department in Abuja for 10 days before he was released on bail.

He has maintained innocence, saying forces opposed to his efforts in the fight against corruption are after him.

In 2009, the federal government charged Nuhu Ribadu, pioneer chairman of the EFCC, with non-declaration of assets.

Michael Aondoakaa, former attorney-general of the federation, had filed charges against Ribadu, who failed to appear before the CCT on the grounds that the assets declaration form he submitted to the CCB was not made available to him.

The tribunal eventually struck out the case against Ribadu.

Does it really takes this long to charge and jail someone cause it seams the rich mata are handled differently in this country.

Las Las he should face the law if found guilty and no special treatment should be given to him the same place he has been sending corrupt ppl to he should go there and chill too

The way the Nigerian government handled the cases of Justice Onnoghen and Magu; will tell you that we can really end corruption if we want to.

At the end ,they'd give him a soft landing from there. Magu actually stole money but I'm sure he will go free cos of the high and mighty in govt whose interest he served

I said it, I know they will use his record with CCB or even his tax returns to knock him down... The hypocrisy of it all is that crops of our present leaders in the country is as guilty of same offense including malami... Is a case of if they want to treat your matter they will just use it against you.. Magu is gone I know he might even be a good person or a thief but the only way we can be serious about the fight against corruption is to have a godly Attorney general who detest unholy gains... Unfortunately we haven't got one since 1960

Lost a secondary skool friend last year, the guy was arrested by efcc officials that’s was raiding some random houses, he was staying with another friend and they got into the mess together,the other friend is a son to a big royal family in Lagos so efcc released him within days without posting his pictures online,then my secondary school friend was paraded as a fraudster,man is not even into that. He was jailed for 4 years and spent his years and got released last year,he got some infections from kiri kiri. Na so my guy take die oo.

Imagine thousands of people,young boys that might have lost their life like that or just wasting off in jail. Buhari administration is a big disaster to Nigeria, a failed nation that brought in a total failure to lead it out of its failure.
