How can you claim to be a Nigerian and you've not tasted the legendary "Nigerian Jollof Rice" grin

Rice is one of the most widely consumed staple food in the world, especially among Africans and Asians. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production.

The best part of Rice is its diversity in preparation and recipes.

In Nigeria, we are already familiar with White Rice, Fried Rice and our globally recognized Jollof Rice, all thanks to our national warriors on social media who keep standing up to defend our cause cool


Here are 7 African Rice Dishes you would also love

1) Kenyan Biryani
The Kenyan biryani is very similar to the Indian biryani. It was introduced to East African by Arab traders during the Indian Ocean Trade.
Kenyan Biryani is mostly prepared with basmati rice and other ingredients could include yoghurt, cinnamon and coriander.


2) Yellow Rice
Yellow rice is arguably more nutritious than plain white rice because it contains more vitamin and minerals than white rice.
Yellow rice main ingredients include onion, olive oil, black pepper, turmeric, salt and garlic powder. It is very simple to make since all the ingredients can be poured at once and cooked.

3) Waakye
Waakye is a Ghanian dish made of rice and beans. It is mostly cooked along with red dried sorghum leaf sheaths or stalks and limestone.
The dish can be eaten on its own or with the Ghanian peppered sauce, fish or even spaghetti.


4) Palm Oil Rice
I'm sure you are familiar with the name "Concoction Rice" or "Nigeria Native Rice". It is called so because it is an alternative to Jollof rice and is usually cooked with palm oil. All the ingredients are put at once and cooked together.

Some other ingredients needed to make this recipe includes dry fish, scent leaf, crayfish and pepper.


5) Mixed nut rice
If you are a lover of nuts, then you would certainly love mixed nut rice.

Mixed nut rice was originally from India, but it is now loved mostly in Morroco. The dish can be served on its own, with roasted meat, beef stew and any nut of your choice.


6) Coconut Rice
Coconut and Rice is simply an amazing duo that gives us Coconut Rice. This simple meal would bring tasty aroma to your dining table.
Coconut Milk is used in place of water to cook the rice, and it can be cooked with any vegetable of your choice.


7) Mupunga Une Dovi (Peanut Butter Rice)
Mupunga Une Dovi is a highly nutritious Zimbabwean traditional meal. It is best cooked with Basmati Rice and Dovi (peanut butter).
It can be eaten on its own or with beef sauce and plantain.
