I want to buy a new laptop of 100k or fairly used of 80k |

I hear that a lot in this country, have never really understood it. People keep saying fairly used electronics or spare parts are better or stronger than the new ones. Doesn't even make sense to me. The only reason I chose fairly used over new ones is when I don't have enough money to spare. 8 Likes |

In phone and laptops new is the best , but in other electronics used ones is better unless you know where to get the original. Today there are too many fake lg and Samsung electronics out there. |

thesicilian:In the case of the system, I would advice him to get a clean fairly used system from a trusted person. Because he can get a fairly used system with way better facilities than a new 100k with mediocre facilities. If he can save up additional 50k, he could get a way better system. 1 Like |

I was at a tech market to buy accessories. I saw these tech guys working on faulty phones, joining wires from one chip on the board to another, trying to revive the phones. Immediately they revived some phones, they changed the phones' cases, and gave them new look, ready to be sold as 'UK used' or clean Nigerian used phones. That day, I swore never to buy anything used, whether it is Heaven used or Jerusalem used. Whatever you want to buy, buy it new! 16 Likes |

OP, I pray that your circumstances change soon so you won’t be making comparisons like this. The best product to buy is a new one from a reputable manufacturer. Especially electronics. 4 Likes |

Noting beats a brand new device laptops, phones, Televisions, consoles etc, the best you can get is when it's still untouched. |

KrazyDave16: 97% of batteries that are bought in Nigeria are usually fake batteries, so you might never get the original batteries again 2 Likes |

Thoughtfeed:Most fairly used are repaired no longer with manufacturer default components and parts. They repaired them with inferior components and sell them as "fairly/UK used" |

New products are mostly poor quality China made certified by hopeless Standard Organization of Nigeria While Used products are those whose warranty have expired and owners swap for newer products, they are high quality products certified by competent standard bodies Eg New China tyres = 15k Used original tyres = 8k New original tyres = 28k Which one will you buy 2 Likes 1 Share |

iyke4:Then I ship it in from authorised vendors outside Nigeria. Limiting my reach to only Nigeria is something I won't do again. |

fact is, you can get a fairly used product with high specs than you'd get a new product with the same specs for example, a brand new Samsung s8 may sell for 100k where's as a fairly used Samsung s8 may sell for the same 100k... it's about preference. but it's always good to buy new since they have warranty and all that new presence! |

thesicilian:let me explain. You see when it comes to electronics, go for fairly used unless you are ordering it from abroad. I was told categorically by an LG agent that, Whatever new product being sold in Nigeria are substandard, specifically made for Nigerians cos we like cheap things. What brought about this eye opener? My broda bought 8 LG tv's in Nigeria and 2 from abroad when he traveled. The ones bought in Nigeria started having issues in less than 6months. Till today, 5yrs after, the ones bought from abroad are still doing fine with no issue. The STANDARD ORGANIZATION OF NIGERIA (SON) is dead. 2 Likes |

Just buy a new one if you can. |
Re: Are Fairly Used Systems Better Than New Ones by Frankdamaxx(m): 11:13am On Aug 05, 2020 |
I think if you can, Import a new one yourself directly from US. Most New electronics in Nigeria are of low quality. If you can also see an original used one from US that you can confirm, go for it. An organisation i know bought some new Laptops in Nigeria for their staff in late 2019/2020. 70% of these new Laptops have had their Hard Disk changed and some other component. The Staff with older Laptops don't have these issues. So, Go figure. |
