Education: Gombe government approves resumption date for exiting SS 3 students, others

Gombe state Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved 10th August, 2020 as date of resumption for exiting SS 3 students in the state with strict adherence to covid-19 safety protocols.

This is in line with the advice of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The state Commissioner for Education, Dr Habu Dahiru who disclosed the development said a meeting with all principals of the 152 public senior secondary schools and chairmen/Secretaries/proprietors of private schools earlier held to finalise arrangements for the resumption.

He said presentations were also made by the state rapid response team/Task force on Covid-19 while principals, teachers and other staff are now being subjected to coronavirus tests preparatory to resumption.

The Commissioner directed all principals to make arrangements to receive SS 3 boarding and day students in both public and private schools by 10th of August 2020.

He said the state government through the ministry of education called on schools heads to take into cognizance that one week from 4th of August is meant to allow them put in place necessary covid-19 guidelines recommended by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Dr Dahiru noted that proprietors managing private schools are expected to report preparation status to quality assurance unit in the ministry of education for clearance.

He equally urged parents to support their wards by ensuring that all the required covid-19 guidelines are adhered to during resumption, especially wearing of face masks and hand sanitizing.

He said while the ministry of education encourages schools to continue e-learning on radio and other media platforms, appropriate dates for the remaining classes of SS 1, SS 11 and JSS 1 and 11 will be announced in due course.

Very commendable. If El Rufai were to subject these ones to competency test exams, the result would be shocking.
