Well, I haven't heard of a BMW reported stolen before maybe because of the factors below:

1. It's not common. So tracking it would be much easy compared to tracking a particular Toyota in a street or long stretch of road.

2. People say it doesn't have second hand value. You know why? Many people can't deal with the maintenance.

3. I hear you will need special kind of device to stand a chance of ever jail breaking one, of which the spare key has to be available to be able to reprogram. The key is programmed with the particular car exclusively, especially the 2005 models upward.

Last time I checked, car thieves don't have time on their hands
