Odion Ighalo was an unused substitute for Manchester United who laboured to a 1-0 extra-time win over Danish side Copenhagen, in the Europa League quarter-final in Cologne, Germany on Monday, Completesports.com reports.

United dominated throughout, hitting the post three times before Bruno Fernandes’ penalty after 94 minutes secured the last four ticket.

Mason Greenwood thought he had put United in front late on in the first half but his effort – as well as Marcus Rashford’s effort shortly after the restart were both ruled out for offside.

Another fantastic chance then fell to Anthony Martial who powered a curling shot towards goal which Copenhagen goalkeeper Karl-Johan Johnsson spectacularly clawed away.

The eventual stalemate gave way to extra time, with United needing only four minutes thereafter to take the lead after Martial was brought down by Andreas Bjelland, which Fernandes slotted past Johnsson.

It was United’s 21st penalty kick so far in the current campaign.

United will now meet the winner between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sevilla in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, in the other quarter-final, Victor Moses was in action for Inter Milan who beat Bayer Leverkusen 2-1.
