El- Rufai: NBA Invitation Withdrawal Unfair by iwaeda: 11:16pm On Aug 20, 2020
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has described the decision of the Nigerian Bar Association to withdraw the invitation extended to him as “an unfortunate embrace of injustice, unfairness, absence of fair hearing and total disregard for the rule of law.”

The PUNCH had earlier reported that, following protests from some lawyers, the NBA withdrew its invitation to the governor who was supposed to speak at the 2020 Annual General Conference of the association.

“The National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association at its ongoing meeting resolves that the invitation to the Kaduna State Governor, H.E. Nasir El-Rufai by the 2020 Annual General Conference Planning committee be withdrawn and decision communicated to the governor,” the NBA tweeted on Thursday evening.

Reacting in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, the governor said he will continue to speak out on national issues whether given the NBA platform or not.

The statement titled, ‘Malam El-Rufai will continue to contribute to the national conversation’, read, “When lawyer friends requested Malam Nasir El-Rufai to accept the invitation of the NBA to participate in a panel discussion on national identity, he accepted as part of his commitment to having a national conversation and the evolution of a national consensus.

“NBA platform or not, these worthy conversations must continue. He will continue to make his voice heard on the things our country needs to do for its progress.

“While the decision about who speaks at its event is clearly the NBA’s, Malam El-Rufai wishes to make clear that he did not seek the platform and is not agitated that he has one less speaking engagement.

“However, the circumstances of the last few days warrant some comments. That a professional organisation has elected to endorse a one-sided narrative on a profound national issue is something that its members may wish to reflect upon.

“For an association, whose bread and butter is about justice to make a ruling based on the stridency of people who lampoon judicial processes against certain individuals without hearing the other side is odd.

“It bears noting that in its response to pressure, the NBA leadership has signaled an unfortunate embrace of injustice, unfairness, absence of fair hearing and total disregard for the rule of law.

“The defamatory statements in the petition is another matter entirely, and they will get the appropriate response.

“Malam Nasir El-Rufai has taken several actions on the security, institutional and technology fronts to address the legacy of violent strife in the state. He is the governor that made permanent military and police bases a reality in southern Kaduna, after close to 40 years of waiting. He is the governor that set up a Peace Commission to nudge communities to embrace their responsibility to live in peace and harmony.

“He has done this with equality of concern for all residents, not just those with access to the media and who are able to mobilise sentiment even when they are part of the problem. His investments in building a constituency for peace, anchored on the rule of law, respect for the citizenship rights of everyone and an embrace of the obligations of a common humanity will continue.

“Those who have chosen to pretend that it is only Kaduna State that is experiencing the security challenges in North-West, or that it is only one part of the state that is affected can enjoy the illusion.”

Be careful and be mindful of what you do or say and/or refuse to do or say, because it will surely come back to hurt you when you are most vulnerable and no one will care much about the fact that it hurts you immensely.

I think Lai Mohammed should start retracing his steps before it is too late for him.

You just can't get away with unguided speech in this our times, they were quite numerous to be ignored, both his and that of his son.

It's not without a cause.

The man is a subverter of justice. He is too sinister. He is a role model to Buhari.

As at today, Southern Kaduna is the most active site of massacres and mass atrocities in Nigeria. Despite this, when the Governor met with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna on 17 August, Governor El-Rufai dismissed the atrocities going on in Southern Kaduna as “media hype”.

The previous day, on 16 August, he informed Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” programme, that he had been unable to visit the sites of atrocity in Southern Kaduna nor extend empathy to the victims because of COVID-19.

However, not having found time to show up for victims of mass killings in his own state, on 8 August, Governor el-Rufai found time to travel to Benin-City for the flag-off of the Campaign of his party in the Edo State Governorship elections. Apparently, COVID-19 did not preclude that.

Demonic dwarf!!!!

He didn't start planning the Southern Kaduna genocide today.

In due time he will be investigated for Patrick Yakowa's death. He was so embittered that a Christian governor emerged from Kaduna that he vowed to reduce them to zero significance.

If you know what this devil has in stock for non muslims and non fulanis, you will fear. He wants to replicate Sudan's janjar-weed style in Nigeria.

This man isn't any politician, he is Jihardist!

Don't mind him. He's taking about fairness when for the first time in the history of Kaduna which was known to always have Muslim and Christan ticket or vise versa for governorship, but was changed by this same man to Muslim Muslim, and he's here talking about fairness.

Did he practice fairness when he went ahead to pay the killers of southern Kaduna people, and left their victims to suffer their fate ?

Meanwhile, I want to commend the NBA for this show of bravery and complete rejection of evil association with unworthy fellow.

HELL-Rufai should expect more of this even from international community.

There is no peace for the wicked !!!

An example of unfair is paying killers to stop killing instead of putting a bullet in their head.

First invite them then embarass them by withdrawing the invitation.

I guess all is fair in Love and war just as his wife commented on the rape tweet her son made some months ago.

ElRufai is not a god, he should reflect and think deeply. More woes (political and physical) awaits him.

I think there's a plague in that family. They need to learn the hard way.
