We play the ostrich in certain matters especially where stigmatization will result. This case is prevalent in our communities where there is no access to mental health care;c cost is also a daunting factor. The parents, usually at their wits end, chain the mentally challenged patient. The father is hiding his son out of shame/preventing him from harming others.

Let an informed (expert) Nairalander speak on this issue. Mental ill health is a serious health issue in our land, acute depression, schrizophrenia, bi polar, paranoia, et al. Our people should be reoriented that mental ill health should not lead to this kind of (condemnation) doom for the sick. Mental ill -health can be managed by psychiatrists and the victim live a normal or fairly normal life. !
I have heard of this kind of cases in Ogun, Edo, Delta, Cross-Rivers, Enugu; this for the benefit of bigots, by the way. I had personal encounters with a doctorate degree holder who displayed classic symptoms of paranoia! Mental ill health can affect anyone, please.

The father is an absolutely nutcase and proves he’s just as mentally deranged as his son.
