I just have a comment on the employment issue. If you are well educated and not just going to school, unemployment is not for you and you have no business looking for job. Like my lecturer will always say, if you want to better equip urself with ur university degree, go in there with the mindset that you have come to learn how to learn. A lot of people just go to school for the sake of it, they lack education and they are out there complaining there's no job.

Here people are just stereotyped. I'm studying banking and finance so therefore it must be b and f. Every minute you're on ur feet looking for where they call people that have a paper with b and f written on it. That's the shortest route to poverty and joblessness. For someone that have gone to uni to learn how to learn, what is on that paper means nothing to him but the fact that the university has given him the ability to learn how to learn. This kind person cannot go about looking for job.

I was specific.
I said, “graduate with a 1st Class or a high 2.1”

You can be hardworking and graduate with a third class.
I’m focused on the result.
I have never seen a 1st class or a 2.1 graduate from the worst Nigerian university cry out, “school na scam”. Even 2.2 or 3rd class that have a vision and are hardworking do not shout that nonsense.
las las they will get lecturing job and be paid 80k per month....I know a PhD holder from one of the universities in Japan, first class graduate in a renowned Nigerian university that has rubber chairs in his sitting room....All na God's grace a beg....no be by school or business

A PhD holder in Japan and a First Class Graduate... Why did he come back to Nigeria? He goes to Canada straight and he gets an Assistant Professorship rank. Same with the US. Why didnt he think this way?
Being book brilliant is great, gives you a good launching pad. But being street smart is important too.

A PhD from a Japanese institution and you are running back to do what in Nigeria? Even Buhari runs away from Nigeria. cheesy grin

The major thing is to know what u want to achieve in life. Then follow it through, for most of this people or achievers it wasn’t accidental they had a plan and followed it one way or another.

Then this doesnt include him. He signed a scholarship contract which he must, legally, honour.
Now, we understand.

I'm a bit on the fence on the topic.
I think it has to do with our expectation in education and the reality.

Let me share a story

I went to a Nigerian University, studied pet Engineering I didn't have 'fun' I faced my book . graduated with an awesome grade (not first class Sha)after graduation I realised that I knew nothing about the industry and how it operated. I got the opportunity to interact with a few people that studied abroad and I discovered that I was way behind.

I was 'encouraged' to do masters in Nigeria (I was very reluctant but I did it anyway) only to get there and once again meet lecturers that dictate from textbooks. Lecturers that expected you answer questions exactly as it is in their notes. People were more interested in passing that understanding the courses.

The more I tried to understand the more I was respected by my classmates. But the more I failed because I couldn't answer questions verbatim.

I remember a particular lecturer.
He would dictate his note from an old textbook.
There was a certain formula that was derive poorly. I decided to read other better sources.
When I derived my own formular out of 12 marks I got only 4. While people I taught that just crammed the notebook did way better.

That's just one of many courses.

Just after the program I got a job in an engineering firm where I discovered once again that I knew NOTHING. Younger people that studied abroad were doing wonders and no one
had the time to teach me.

I found myself paying for courses and trainings to keep up.
I did the math and the money I spent on masters could have paid for 5 training.

I could easily say that school in Naija is a scam.

However, if I were realistic with my educational goals and had proper guidance maybe I would have gone farther.

Formal Education is good but we can't rule out the plague that is the Nigerian system.
