Hydrosalpinx is the name for a condition in which a woman’s fallopian tube becomes blocked with fluid. It is defined as a distal tubal obstruction filled with serous or clear fluid. Hydrosalpinx does not mean “water” is exist in the fallopian tube, it refers to the accumulation of secretions from mucosal cells in the fallopian tube due to infection with inflammation or adhesive atresia of the tube. The most common treatment for a woman with hydrosalpinx is to have surgery to remove the affected tube. This type of surgery is known as salpingectomy. Surgery may also be offered to remove scar tissue or other adhesions that could be affecting fertility. Surgical treatment can cause some damage to the body because it needs to be performed under general anesthesia.
