Bagehot:Nope, US regards polytechnic as universities. E.g California polytechnic state university. Polytechnic are thesame as universities in the US. Polytechnic simply means an higher institution offering course in vocational subject, meaning it's more practical oriented. The certificate a polytechnic offer could be degree or associated degree. In America, a polytechnic is regarded as a university. U can check this out urself some universities in US are actually polytechnic. A polytechnic can award degree (bsc) too, so they consider polytechnic in Nigeria as universities too. |

Junior66:Nope, u are absolutely wrong, US use the number of years and number if courses study to determine if your result is a degree or associate degree. The US regard 5yrs for any degree, they will never equate ur 5yrs hnd to 2yrs associate degree. The problem with Nigeria hnd and bsc in the use has to to with courses. I don't want to go into details but us treat hnd n bsc from Nigeria as thesame. Infact US will regard a 5yrs hnd from Nigeria more than a 3yrs bsc from India. |

Chukwudi4naija: Been there, done that. In my case, as a young chap, I desired all degrees obtainable in both, and today, I have them. Have both experience and wouldn't say one is better as they are different in terms of their objectives and methodology. As such, comparing is unnecessary. All I'm saying is pelple need not make it seem they are better because they went to the University. |

Junior66: Do not show your ignorance with much pride. A HND is an equivalent of BSC in the US and an equivalent of PGD in Canada. That said, in Nigeria, I don't understand the basis of discrimination since each had its objectives. |

saaphiere: Not as simple as that. Yes, beauty is the first attraction. It certainly helps to be beautiful, it draws people close. But they would then discover other more enduring attributes in the woman...This is the curse of ugly women..They could be beautiful inside but because their looks are not very appealing, not many would come close to appreciate the inner beauty..So yes, there could certainly be enduring qualities in you he could discover to keep him when the beauty fades away...But you really sound like you're taken...Some men are lucky...Good luck.. |

Back in the days i secured admission into PTI, i was about to resume when my uncle heard about it, he told my parents not to let me go to a Polytechnic or Monotechnic, i cried that day sha. Cos i had to wait to write jamb the following year. My uncle was the Perm Sec. Ministry of Works and Housing that time. And he said he never wanted me to go through what he went through. He had his HND but had to go back to Get a B.Eng after some years due to discrimination and office politics. From my observation, you have Olodos in both polytechnics and Universities You can find very intelligent students in Polys and Unis You find poly graduates employing uni graduates and you find uni graduates employing poly graduates also. You find illiterates employing both also. The discrimination and stigmatization is very real. If you have worked in a university, there is a meeting called Congregation, Only University graduates attend. 3 Likes |

How can BSC and HND be equal? Please check the two and you will know the reason they can't be equal. Just imagine the irony of fighting for BSC and HND equality. During the time of Jamb registration you didn't register for jamb because you had only four credits then you choose to wait for MPCE Jamb because it's only polytechnics and colleges of education that accepts fours credit passes. I got my BSC after the rigorous journey of having five credit passes to write jamb and score above 200, Now you are protesting for equality when you could work hard the same way I worked hard. They must be joking. 1 Like |

Queenlovely: It is quiet unfortunate that all you could put together are these words that shows nothing but a conformation of what had been earlier said that some of our university graduates (not all) see or know nothing other than the title accorded them, even when these titles are given just to allow other intakes into the citadel. OH NIGERIA SEE THOSE WHO ARE TO CARE FOR YOU TOMORROW.....WHAT A SHAME!!! |

eniolaamos7:you just proved my point man. Given the two choices of university and polytechnics, nobody ever chooses poly. They are 2nd choices when u can't see urself in d 1st. Poly graduates should for once respect who respect is due, degree is ahead by miles. Dat is why banks rush diploma holders simply because they can't afford degree holders; not dat they prefer diploma, no no. In fact, sensitive positions in banks are never trusted to a diploma holder, never. Degree is like Lexus 350, diploma is like Peugeot 206 1 Like |

With this your chest-beating submission here, it is quite apparent why the disparity between HND and BSc degree holders still subsist. Morrison91: |

sbaks:So sad It can't be equated. I've gone to a poly now I'm ina uni, those their practical nature shit na scam. I need at least 200 in jamb to gain admission then one other person that gained admission with 135 in jamb will say they should equate it. they better behave 1 Like |

sbaks:offcourse. Even an ND holder is useful than them. They are all talk no action. Do this they can't, fix that they complain of incomplete facilities meanwhile HND holders are working their ass off building the company. Now instagram is their new home, if the guys are not in bbnaija the ladies are selling makeups and handbags, its home delivery offcourse lol. The rest are instagram skit makers and in 6months they buy a mansion in lekki. If not for poly grads this already failed nation won't still be hanging here. They like to use words like "common bricklayer " "common technician" "common this common that" but they know nothing with building, constructing or manufacturing. That mansion they live in and pay 6m per year was built by that common "bricklayer". That bread they eat was manufactured by that "common factory worker ". Infact my brother Nigeria is doomed especially her education system. This nonsense don't exist in first world countries. Now whenever someone tells me I'm a graduate the conversation is just getting started. My next q is what did u study! Then next is "how useful is your course to the world we live in today! If I follow the fool up with 3-4Q he will rethink himself coz their pride begins when the conversation ends with "I'm a graduate " to them they have made an impression on u. 1 Like 1 Share |
