Yes, your idea makes some sense. If people can see that there's no more X from tribe Y to blame, it might work.

But on the other hand, the issue with corruption in Africa is that the corrupt do a lot of good in their home communities. So prosecuting them is like prosecuting the local star. Add the fact that many of the people who propose dividing Nigeria usually end up with countries that are dominated by one big tribe and many minorities , and before long the same problem happens

As I said upthread, it's an overreaction to a simple problem.

Having said that, NBA can do much better. Yes, NBA did not ban elrufai because they hate the North (and many of the people behind the petition were Northerners even) , but the anger suggests that there is a big bigotry problem that predates this issue.

There is a lot of hate and bigotry among southerners towards the North. That bigotry does have its roots too in anti southern bigotry in the North as well. The problem is, neither side is willing to accept they have a bigotry problem.

And that, to me , is the issue here.. splitting the NBA or the country is running away from the problem. We have to face this demon of bigotry before it overwhelms us, whether we remain as one or we split

Sharia is in the Constitution.

Yes, I don't agree with the law, but it is there. But the framers of the Constitution put in a safeguard, they made it a state by state thing, not something a President can sit down and sign a law making Shari'a a nationwide thing (which is why Buhari cannot implement Shari'a across Nigeria).

And many Northerners supported it because they felt it would offer an alternative to the sadly inefficient secular system (also there was the political thing...just saying).

But as we can see, twenty years later, many Northern states are in a worse state. That's why mixing religion and politics don't work.
