For the first time in our history, we are getting a world class air force base with world class facilities, airfield hot cargo pad, perimeter and security fencing, munitions assembly and storage, small arms storage, a flight annex wing building for simulator training, airfield lighting, and various airfield apron, parking, hangar, and entry control point improvements.

This is part of the 12 A-29 Tucano package that we've already paid for.

So if you do not know the difference between modern, foreign and civilized it is my fault. It makes me anti-Nigerian?

I thought you have more sense than that. You have strengthed out your hands as a beggar since Independence for foreign aids, foreign portfolio investments, foreign jobs and military aids. You really think they are FREE!

Depend on yourselves for a change. Nigeria kicked Ebola, USA was scared to death mongering fears. By our ingenuity and determination we shall kick Covid-19. If we can do those, Nigeria has potential for greater heights.

You cannot see connection between that and military aid, actually bug or listening post given to you for FREE!

Think harder man.

[/s]

You can not engage me or convince me that we are on the wrong track with your weak, backward and ignorant babbles.

I don't even see the silly connection with War planes and Ebola.

Go away please.

BAE awarded $225 million APKWS rocket contract for US, Nigeria, Netherlands

BAE Systems was awarded a $225 million contract to produce almost 10,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System units for the United States, Nigeria and the Netherlands, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a release.

While the release said the procurement is “in support of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and the governments of Nigeria and the Netherlands,” the foreign military sales component of the contract was the full value. “Fiscal 2019 procurement of ammunition (Army, Navy and Marine Corps and Air Force); and Foreign Military Sales funds in the amount of $225,034,247 will be obligated at time of award,” the release said.

APKWS upgrades 2.75-inch (70 mm) rockets to a semi-active laser guided precision weapon. The system is a design conversion for Hydra 70 unguided rockets turning them into low-yield precision-guided munitions to help avoid collateral damage.

If you spend all of your income or budget on USA arms, you will still get nothing.

You know why USA refused to sell Jonathan arms, the Commander of Africom looked at your budget, the cost of what Nigeria wanted would wipe out a third of your budget.

Iran said Saudi Arabia could buy all the arms they want from USA, they do not have to buy from anyone. They make their own arms.

Compare them with Nigeria in the 60s.

BTW, they demonstrated their capability to the world when they hit US troops in Irag.

Your types have been ruling the Country for a long time.

Wonderful news. With this airbase, we will project our military might over the Atlantic. Some narrow minded people will say the money is better spent in other things, but the truth is, as a soveign nation of over 170 million people, it is paramount to have a strong military so other countries will think twice before starting a war. You see, war does not announce itself, you have to be prepared at all times.

As the most populous Black nation on the planet, Blacks all over the world are looking at us for leadership and guidance. Blacks in the carribean, U.S, Latin America and Erurope believe Nigeria is the real life version of the mythical Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman will be bragging to the angels right now like, those are my people down there in Africa doing great things. RIP Black Panther.

Lol. You mumu sha. See how ignorant you sound. You want to use Super Tucano jets to project military might? Do you know these are obsolete military planes?

Which Military in this world still uses a Super Tucano jet? They are mainly used now as commercial jet.

SEALS, Tucano planes and more than 3,300 pounds of weapons

Super Tucano can fight from the air at less than 1,000 feet above the ground battle.

In fact, five hard points under the wing and fuselage allow the aircraft to bring more than 3,300 pounds of weapons to a fight.

In addition to two internal machine guns, it can bring two .50" machine guns in the wings, with each unleashing 200 rounds for powerful close support of ground forces.

Rocket launchers like the LAU-68 and bombs like the Mk 81 or Mk 82 equipped with guidance kits are two other sorts of firepower it can unload to defeat enemy forces.

If the Super Tucano is under attack from an enemy plane, then it can unleash short-range air-air missiles like the AIM-9 Sidewinders – just like jets.

In addition to armor, the air crew’s safety is enhanced with advanced tech like MAWS (Missile Approach Warning System) and RWR (Radar Warning Receiver). It also has cunning modern tech like chaff and flares to defeat enemy attacks

Modern missions often happen at night. The aircraft has been designed to be compatible with this need - from NVG Gen. III infra-red vision capability to details like cockpit and external lights that are compatible with NVG.

The electro optical infrared system helps the pilots recognize targets by collecting images around the clock, both day and night. FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared) supplies digitized thermal imaging.

U.S. Navy SEALs often identify the very best technology and then trailblaze with it.

The SEALS spotted the potential of the Tucano and fought hard for it to be adopted to provide better close air support, transforming it into the Super Tucano.

The result? The birth of the A-29B Super Tucano and an aircraft that would prove the SEALS right time and again downrange. It performed so well that the Super Tucano stable grew.

If you don't know what the Tucanos are or their capabilities, ask the US Navy Seals (The best military Unit on the surface of the earth) why they love the plane and keep buying more of them

Do you know more and better than the US Navy seals? No, you don't

Is India Reluctant To Recognise JF-17’s Lead?

According to Chaudhry, “JF-17 is the best option in terms of our goals. Indian planes were good even when Pakistan shot down an Indian plane (Mig-21) and India’s front line, co-called best jets like the SU-30 MKIs could not do anything.

Earlier, Pakistani experts had taken a dig at the Russian origin jets and stated – what really bothered the Indian Air Force was that Pakistan was able to shoot-down an Indian jet (Mig-21 Bison) from a very long range without giving any change to the Indian jets. Indian jets which were targetted included India’s front line Sukhoi-30 MKIs which only managed to somehow evade the AMRAAMs and were never able to hit back.

Former Air Marshal (retd) Shahid Latif told the BBC that Pakistan has acquired the capability to build as many aircraft as it wants as these jets as developed locally. Shahid Latif says that more than 100 JF-17s have been prepared and handed over to the Air Force and India would need to look-to France for almost anything and everything.

Latif also stated that the JF-17s are capable of almost everything that Rafale is. According to Latif, if Rafale is a fourth-generation jet, then JF-17s have the capability to be upgraded 4.5 generation jets.

Believe it or not, the Tucano carries and drops the same high-tech killer weapons that the latest US jets like the F35s .

And we are getting 100 Paveway II (PW-II) aerial laser-guided bombs.

The Tucano is a beast, don't underestimate it.

What kind of shit is this? Do you mean F 35 that will cost 1.5 trillion dollars i.e Nigeria's National budget for about 40 years sport the same weapons with our alpha jets?

The Tucano is not world class, but it's carrying and dropping the same world class weapons and avionics that the latest world class jets like the F35s are featuring.

So, the US will not equip Nigeria with the same thing that they already gave to their best unit?

The US military love the Tucano so much that they gave them to their Navy seals, the best military unit in the world and they are still loading up on the Tucano, so, are you smarter than the US and the US Navy Seals?

We have a saying in Kenya in Massai, which translates in English like this , "Sometimes Lion dont take Wild dog seriously so Dog Bite a Lion and Run but that Doesn't make him a King".

The day when Lion is in the active mood then it becomes end of Wild dog and so dog always avoid that real confrontation or it met its Nemesis.

Please, stop disgracing yourself on social media. No Military worth it's salt in this world uses a Super Tucano jet. No military in this world still buys a Super Tucano jet not to talk of building an airbase for it (except Nigerian military). These are obsolete jets that are now mainly used for commercial purposes.

There are F-16, F-22 rapports that Nigeria can buy (F-35 not included because the Americans wouldn't sell).

Please, stop saying nonsense. Go and read jets militaries all over the world are buying. Nigeria military has no business buying Super Tucano jets, no matter the intention.
I think otherwise as per disgracing oneself. The reverse is the case.
When it comes to military matters, speak of what you know.
You responded to the last conversation I had with NGpatriot gentleman, you did not read the earlier discuss to understand what lead to my last message.
First, super tucano is not a jet but a Turbo prop.
Now what threat does Nigeria airforce face with its lean budget? Is it cross boarder country to country fight? No.
Do we have any country around us that has an airforce that is of any threat to us? No! Infact in the early 80ies Nigeria procured Sepecat jaguar Frontline Jets from BAE. The most sofisticated fighter aircrafts we ever had. The US and UK insisted Nigeria will only be allowed iron bombs and nothing more sofisticated to we do not go attacking our neighbours!
This Jets were later grounded and sold off almost brand new. Some had airflight time of only 150 hours.
The pressing threats we have is is insurgency, counter terrorism etc. For this purpose you need a ground attack airframe.
NOTE: My first option would have been to procure Russian SU 25 frogfot ground attact airframe as they would have been cheaper to buy, tried and trusted (check out Syria etc). Cheaper munitions, better protection for aviators etc. But higher cost per hour to operate.
Anyway for best known reasons we got tocanos and we have to deal with them.
Tucanos are slower unlike fast Jets so could place more ordinance on target. Loiter better also. Cost wise, the operating cost per hour is about 30% of your normal jet aircraft in terms of fuel.(Nigeria airforce has a lean budget).
Regarding f16, f35s, f22, we have no such threats to get such aircrafts with operating cost 35,000 to 60k USD operating cost per hour compared to about 5k for tucano. Besides F35, f22, rafales etc are excess of 100m USD Jets, f16, su 27s, mig 29s about half that amount. Those are combat, air dominance frontline fighter Jets mainly used to shoot down other aircrafts, bombings in major combat senerios not low scale counter insurgency.
Last I checked Boko Haram does not have an airforce!
Its like buying a Ferrari for your driver to do your school runs.
