You cannot apply for a residency visa from Nigeria unless you go Study route or spousal route. After studies you can have a job and then renew your residency. I once had a residence permit but abandoned it and came back to Nigeria. That was in 2008 though.

How can one go about the study route?

You can go directly to the school website. My Alumni was UVA (www.uva.nl) or just use google to search for schools in holland and contact them.

Any idea on the cost and job opportunities after?
Re: Holland Visa Application Process by megastu(m): 6:57pm On Sep 09, 2020
I have since lost touch. Cost of schooling is almost similar with U.K, a bit lower though. Also the residence permit gives you access to almost all European countries.
As for job opportunities after, you need to consider the language barrier. I.T jobs are in abundance though.

If you need your national ID card for online transactions and you have only the identification number slip, see the solution here https://www.nairakobo.com.ng/2020/06/12/design-and-print-your-nigerian-national-identity-card-on-plastic/

Going through study route will cost alot and after studying there's no guarantee that I'll get a job and any stay beyond the given time will lead to something else

Study route does not guarantee permanent residence. After you graduate you are given one year to find an employer to sponsor you. Majority of Nigerians have had to go back despite spending thousands of Euro's. They prefer immigrants from the European Union. Easiest route for an African is through marriage.

It depends on what you are studying. If it's pure engineering the chances of getting sponsored is almost 0 percent but if it's IT there's a very high chance of sponsorship. I know around 3 developers that got jobs and sponsorship visas in the Netherlands from Nigeria here.

I have a friend currently there that studied finance and has 5 more months before her visa expires struggling to find a job, so an employer can sponsor her to remain there. The thought of returning back to Nigeria has thrown her into depression.

That's possible. I usually do a lot of research with regards to jobs on LinkedIn and indeed and there's very few engineering and finance jobs in many European countries contrary to what many people think. Most of the jobs available now are for people in IT. Web developers, security analyst, networking engineers, UI and UX designers, product designers and managers et Al. If I am going for a master's degree today it must be in computer science o or nothing. Going to abroad and coming back to this shithole is depressing.

What I will advise prospective immigrants is to go into I.T or the healthcare field. The demand in both fields is high and they have job security. I have friends in I.T running from one company to another, the demand for their services is high.

I pray my friend gets a job before her work visa expires. I don't want her to return to Nigeria in the current state the country is in. My last visit was in 2018 and was shocked it was still the same way I left it.

Nigeria today is worst than how it was in 2018. Nigeria wasn't the world's poverty capital in 2018 and the borders were still open for business. 2019 Nigeria became the world's poverty capital and as if that wasn't bad the dullardhino closed the borders to trade permanently which crippled so many businesses as if that wasn't bad Corona came lipsrsealed
