Assassins attack Inc President

PORT HARCOURT— PRESIDENT of Ijaw National Congress, Dr Atuboyedia Obainime, Monday, survived an assassination attempt but he sustained injuries from shots fired by his attackers.
According to the Police, the incident occurred at about 8pm on Monday around Choba area of the state capital. Atuboyedia, who is a lecturer in the Sociology department of the University of Port Harcourt, was reportedly attacked by some gunmen around Choba Roundabout while in his car.
The police Public Relations Officer, Dr Rita Inoma Abbey said the gun men made attempt to kidnap the victim and also flee with his vehicle which he resisted. While the struggle was on, the hoodlums opened fire on him.
The shots apparently attracted attention of a Police patrol vehicle that raced to the scene. On sighting the patrol vehicle, the hoodlums fled into a small market close to the scene.
She added that the fleeing hoodlums abandon two AK 47 riffle, two magazines and 21 live ammunition.
Effort made to reach the victim, Dr Obainime on his mobile was futile as it was switched off. Meantime, the Police PRO said he (Atuboyedia) was responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.
Her words, “on 21/2/11 at about 2010 hrs at Choba Roundabout, there was an attempt to kidnap and snatch a vehicle from one Dr Obainime, Uniport lecturer and President, Ijaw Congress. He was shot and wounded on the thigh in an ensued struggle.
Metro Patrol Policemen arrived in good time to prevent the snatch and his kidnap. He was rushed to the hospital where he is stable.”
“The pursued hoodlums fled into the market area, no shot fired which saved innocent lives. But it forced them to abandon their AK 47 riffles with numbers 28926 and 14442, two magazines and 21 live ammunition. Investigation continues”
