NevetsIbot: His character?
* perfect temperament. Khal will show no sign of aggression until you attack someone from his family or a random kid. The real hero.
*He'd back up an intruder into a corner and stay there with him until someone from inside comes to let him in.
* You're a friend if you talk to anyone in his family... Should you start a fight even after being accepted by him.. You're a threat.
I was out with him on a walk when I met someone I know... We stood to have a talk while Khal sat quietly beside me... Another man joined and along the line, he said "But this your dog seems stupid... He didn't bark at me when I came"
I asked him if that was his orientation of what a good dog is and asked him to push my chest and see what the dog would do".... Hahahah
* Visits every one in their room every morning and has a quick morning nap on my bed.
* Understands every command you can think of... Go out, too rough., bad boy, good boy, stay, go, Call Peter... Etc
* If he needs to urinate, he'd pick his belt up and bring it to anyone to take him out.
* He's friends with chickens... And will stand his ground when we meet any other dog that wants to attack him... His massive head has always discouraged any other dog though.
Attached Is a picture of Khal after a quick bath and another picture of Khal and Peter having a Bro moment at a balcony Seems Khal is not an alpha male. Mine was an alpha, very ugly, very aggressive to outsiders and very territorial. Despite the fact that our cleaner had been visiting since he was a wee pup, he always barked up a storm that could be heard all around the neighborhood anytime she came into the compound. As long as you are not a member of his family (us), you are his enemy. As he grew bigger, he graduated to running to the gate and shaking it with pure menace when strangers knocked at the gate. Even when he was dying of poison, he still managed to mark a few areas in the compound before crawling under the vehicle and falling into a coma. He fought with death for close to 24 hours and even in a coma, it took two people to restrain him as he fought and cried in pain. It's almost a month now but water still comes out of my eyes (like now) each time I remember Gift. He did not deserve the way he died. He loved and protected us with a single minded fierceness. The last pic is him in a coma in the early hours of the morning. He died at almost midnight of that same day. My heart still bleeds. 30 Likes 2 Shares |

But there's a misconception you just talked about.. About khla not being an Alpha male because he's not unduly aggressive. If this is the same rott of yours I read of some months ago, I'd say your rott had aggression issues and was highly territorial.. Khal would stand his ground with any dog even as a puppy, would accept you as a visitor so long you're not posing any threat, but if you do, only I can stand in his way..... When he was 8months old, he was on a walk with me, a friend saw me and walked up to me and threw his hands at me for a handshake but he was very fast, Khal launched at him immediately as ferocious as ever... That my dear Ishlove is how an emotionally balanced dog should behave.... No unnecessary sign of aggression unless it's obvious this person is there to harm. Your dog should not bark at anyone you are friendly towards until there's a reason to.... Again... So sorry for the death of your dog... I can understand how you feel 27 Likes |

Did Gift have aggression issues? I doubt. He just did not accept anyone that did not smell like us. He saw our compound as his territory and marked everything accordingly. The day my brother bought a new tire, he attacked the tire with his teeth and did not rest until he marked that tyre. Lol Thanks. 12 Likes 1 Share |

But this thread is about my boy, Khal.
He's an indoor dog... He's just like the last born in the house.. Lol.. Yeah.. He's that integrated.

As much as I love Dogs, I dont think I can allow an animal that doesnt wipe its mouth after a meal or wash down there after a leak or the other business to share my bed space. That can only happen after a bath. Khal is lucky Dog, BTW. 2 Likes 1 Share |

NevetsIbot:
Well.. There's this family I am close to.. They have Nine heavily built Rottweilers exactly like Khal... 2 Red Rotts and 7 regular ones... Any time I go there, all Nine Rotts welcome me like a member of the family... Well balanced dogs with no sign of unnecessary aggression... Love those dogs to the moon.
Since 9 Rotts are a little too much to be in the house. They all stay outside now with their own shed built for them, so the owner had to get another dog to be inside - A Chowchow
The Chowchow is almost a yr and half now and no, Harry is not my friend at all... It took Harry a long while to even let the owners daughter touch him much less me. This is a dog that has everything provided for him.....
Always scared of anyone, acts jumpy and all.. If I didn't know the family, I'd say they were abusing the dog.. Well.. I don't know.. It might be different for other Chowchows... But this one I saw.. No no no no
St. Bernard is a nice breed but I haven't seen someone with one here in Naija There's a man on my street in Abuja who owns a thorough bred St Bernard. When she gave birth, he was selling a puppy for 200k. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

Depends on what size of dog you like..
Small size - Lhasa and Eskie (very nice dogs)
Medium - Chowchow (my experience with this dog has been rigid though)
Large - GSD (for a new owner), Rottweiler or Cane Corso(For an experienced owner)... Then we have the Huskies too (very playful breed tho)
Those are the ones I'd pick from for an indoor pet though.. But since I love only large dogs, I only have large ones You write very well and your love and knowledge of dog breeds comes across clearly. Everytime I think of leaving NL, I come across something like this and I say there is hope for this country. 28 Likes 2 Shares |

NevetsIbot: So far... Khal has been the exact opposite of what the media and the world think about Rottweilers.
It took a lot of discipline and love from the whole family to mould him into a dog I can always vouch for with even babies..
There was a time my baby cousin who was two months old was left in the living room with a guy who Khla was just getting to like... Khal went over to the baby and stood over him while watching the new guy closely.. He'd nudge the baby back under him if he tried to craw away.... The moment the new guy stood to join me at the dining... Khal gave a loud bark...
A rare picture of a tired Khal after killing a lot of lizards and another where we were on a walk.....
I have lost his puppy pictures due to a memory loss on my phone (courtesy of my cousin - Marvel1206) .... Will be taking more pictures and probably videos soon. You are a good writer. In addition, you have a passion for the k9s. Don't let it go to waste. 7 Likes |

NevetsIbot: Again.. I'd say that any dog can be calm and confident and only show aggression when necessary if it has the right training and right love... A perfect balance of discipline and love.... Even the popular Pittbulls.
I once read of a pitbull that was even more affectionate and protective like Khal..
I'd go on walks and see people jumping off the road at the sight of Khal who really doesn't give sh*t about em.. Sometimes I think he sees himself as an human being. I take him on regular walks because the tendency of Khal gaining weight is high within a week of not walking...... I don't want a fat dog. Lol.
And by the way... A rottweiler is not for first time owners please. Awwwnn.. I really love dogs but my parents won't let me get one but it's on my bucket list..dogs are more loyal than people and that's a fact! 4 Likes |

NevetsIbot: He contracted Parvo virus from a boerbull puppy... Just because we let someone else keep his sick puppy in his cage over night since Khal doesn't use the cage...
Khal got so sick he didn't eat for 2 weeks.. I had to stay out and sit with him from 7am till 7pm for a week to make sure his drip never fell out... And Khal never shook the leg that was dripped as if he knew it was of help.
He also totally loved the vet that took care of him all through... He was surprised to see a rottweiler that was so calm and confident... And more surprised to see the love we showered on him...
He was barely a year when this happened and his weight dropped from 39kg to 31kg.... We thought he would die since he was in the fatal stage.... But my boy bounced back.
It took him a months and 12drips to fully recover and gain his weight back. I would have cried like a baby if he had died. This explains why the dog's name rang a bell... Glad to know he survived. |
