As the agitation for power rotation to the south-East continues to gather momentum across the country ahead of 2023 presidential election, a group in northern Nigeria has declared support for Professor Peter Umeadi.

The Peter Umeadi Support Group for President 2023, made the declaration during the inaugural meeting of the North-West chapter of the movement held in Kano on Saturday.

They described Umeadi as seasoned technocrat whose antecedents in both the legal and judicial sectors are what Nigeria deserves in this period of our national development.

The Coordinator of the movement in the North West region, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Mohammed said Umeadi will use his abundant experience to implement the existing body of laws and policy frameworks to move the country forward.

"Our movement is calling for a great new Nigeria under Professor Peter Umeadi for the unity of the country. This is the official commencement of the movement ahead of 2023 to mobilize support for the candidacy of the legal luminary cum eminent jurist," Mohammed said.

He explained that, "It's not only about getting an Igbo president when the incumbent must have finished his second tenure by 2023 to be the next president of Nigeria.

"Under Professor Umeadi, Nigeria will have a detribalised leader whose priority will be to unite the country. He is a bridge builder in that aspect".

"As a former Chief Judge and Professor of law at University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Professor Umeadi will surely give the country an enlightened and egalitarian style of leadership, based on the principles of social justice, rule of law and equitable distribution of the nation's scarce resources," he added.

Also speaking at the event, the Zamfara state coordinator, Nura Mohammed expressed his joy, saying that the retired chief judge’s wealth of experience in law and justice will help boost the fortunes of Nigeria as one united and progressive nation.

Similarly, Barrister Jummai Alemu from Sokoto state said they decided to start the movement from Kano considering the significance of the region in Nigeria's politics with the hope of reaching the entire northern Nigeria.

The meeting which was attended by supporters from the seven states of the region, brainstormed on the political strategies of winning the people's mandate and recommended grassroot mobilisation as the best way of winning the acceptance of the masses. They also resolved to solicit the support of northern political elites for Professor Peter Umeadi's Presidential ambition.

I wish that we can do away with the regular faces in the national political scene

Nigerians are in dire need of a Messiah but how will this Messiah emerge when out political system is already corrupt?

It is only a SouthEasterner candidate that can stop a Northeasterner from becoming a President...

Present a SouthSoutherner or Southwesterner and face defeat...

You are joking right? Everyone wants to face an Igbo opposition candidate because they are the easiest to defeat.

Even Igbos know this and that is why they are trying to blackmail APC to present an Igbo candidate. Minus APC and PDP both presenting Igbo candidates, there is zero chance of an Igbo becoming President. Nada. Zilch.

You guys love decieving yourselves and speaking in ignorance of the reality and what is on the ground in Nigeria. Abeg carry on.

Don't say that bro we are all Nigerians , let's be fair to ourselves , tell me why u thinks the Southsouth or Southwest is more qualified than the Northeast or Northcentral ??.... Explain , under zoning( the 6 - geopolitical zones) , forget about party ...explain pls

Look, I am not here to carry on a debate about who is more qualified or not. Fact is that Nigerians, as things stand, will never give an Igbo candidate majority vote againt other candidates from even the smallest ethnic group in our nation. That is the level of distrust all other Nigerians have for Igbos.

Igbos caused this for themselves. No one really sees them as Nigerians let alone be comfortable putting their fate, destiny and future in the hands of Igbo.

Yes we are all Nigerians but you too should learn to deal with reality of Nigeria without lying to yourself.

You didn't lie on reality on ground , but not peculiar to the Ibo only, but south in general, before 2015, the trend was normal in the north. But after 2015. Enough damages was to the the south during the politicking in the north, and u said something I like , which is also not peculiar to Igbo... Like what happened in 1999, OBJ vs Olufalae, nd 2007 , late Yar'Adua vs PMB ...that will be the best ...without that , the north will continue to rule , and in 2023 , all parties should be encouraged to feed a candidate from the Southeast... and when it is time for Southwest and Southsouth, all parties be encouraged to feed from the zone...because the south all shouting North , but forget that Northcentral and Northeast have not rule but only Northwest ... Now even south west who ruled 8years in OBJ and 8years in Osibanjo as VP , still want to rule as president in 2023 , same to some candidate from the Southsouth who have done 6years as president in GEJ... If we must be fair to ourselves as one Nigerians , All parties should present a SouthEasterner for 8years, after which a Northeasterner or Northcentral...after which again , a Southwesterner not Southsoutherner , but for their selfishness, they wouldn't want to wait and with the voting strength of the northeast, 2023, is our time , any region thinking of picking his VP in from this region , will only be wasting their time ...

Brother, Nigerians dont like facing the truth. They would rather lie to themselves and others.

Yorubas say " wa je ere ise owo re".

You will reap the rewards of your handiwork. That, without talking too much, is what stands in the way of any Igbo Presidential candidate. Not Tinubu, Osinbajo or Yorubas.

All these threats and blackmail from Igbos are a meaningless and self-delusional waste of time. If APC and PDP do not present an Igbo candidate then an Igbo will never be President of Nigeria if elections are truly allowed to be the popularity contest they are meant to be.

Thus says a yoruba man.according to the yorubas, everyone likes them and hates them but yet,we keep seeing fulani killing them in their lands while hausas are fighting them everyday.

An igbo man has more chances of becoming a president in 2023 than a yoruba man.keep this date, no yoruba president in this country until a man have ruled for 8 years.. nigerians know this and that's why people like ouk are already strategizing for 2023.

Yorubas should keep lying to theirselves that everyone likes cheesy cheesy
