A Landlord's outstanding electricity bills cannot be enforced on a tenant.

A judge recently ruled that the bills of a previous tenant cannot be enforced on a new customer.

Send us details if you are in such situations.

Nonsense tweet.

Is there anyone who would normally inherit another person's bill?

Maybe Ozo would. Not me.

If NERC wants to show that they are working, they should focus on more relevant matters.

This particular matter is DOA. Only applies to dumb people.

This has been long overdue, but it is rather late than NEVER.
Slow and steady we will get to a new and better Nigeria we want.
God bless Nigeria.

No good news will ever ever make some people happy in life.
Negativity and Pessimism has been engraved on them like a tattoo.
What a shame!

undecided So pathetic NERC no more stands with the people which was its sole duty and the reason for their creation, right under their nose they have sat down and watched electricity tariff increased at least 3 different times...as usual they are juSt a branch of the executhieves with no clear cut directiOn.

These are members with good brains, that criticize at the right time and appreciate good developments when they see one.
Unlike the ones that wail 24/7, every day, every week and every month of their lives, even to good news such as this.
What a Pity!

That is good you made it clear but can that landlord sue the former tenant.

We never follow up, is like stopping in the middle of a sentence without cause. After a while, people will worry about your mental state and hence, not take you serious.

We always stop at 20%.

Nerc where is the light that you and the leadership promised.

Other serious places are playing with gigawatt, while Nigeria and other zombie africans are praying for Europe and America to come up with a technology where they can supply us light directly. Our priorities ( this judgement is good tho, even though it is common sense) are foolishly applied most times.

I hope they implement this and enforce it on the discos. Some houses have been disconnected for years because of the huge outstanding debt accumulated by the previous occupants. It's unfair that the new occupants have to be the ones to offset these debts before they can get reconnected.

So wrong for a Landlord to insist on a new tenant to pay for outstanding bill.

This is commendable considering how we move into houses that previous occupants owed a substantial amount. thumbs up to NERC,... We need good policies like this and prepaid meter to kick off massive industrialization just like what is happening in Akwa Ibom State
