The Blueprint 3 is American rapper Jay-Z's eleventh studio album, released on Roc Nation on September 8, 2009, through an Asylum Records & Atlantic Records distribution. Preceded by The Blueprint (2001) and The Blueprint2: The Gift & The Curse (2002), it is the third Blueprint album.

Kanye West, No I.D., The Neptunes, Jeff Bhasker, Al Shux, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, The Inkredibles, Swizz Beatz, and Timbaland handled the production for the album from 2008 to 2009 in various recording studios.

Timbaland, a regular collaborator to previous Jay-Z albums, told MTV News on July 20 that he would be recording the whole record. Yet Jay-Z called the assertion "premature," in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. During an interview with radio station Shade 45 Jay-Z announced The Blueprint 3 as the title of the album in July 2009.
