I don't know if you're intentionally conflating the issue for argument's sake, but diseases are caused by different things (broadly speaking paramecia, fungi, bacteria, viruses, in decreasing order of size); the previous commenter was simply noting that all these things, including viruses, existed way before science. There are good things (and bad things) being done in the name of science, but it isn't up to science to censure the pursuit of understanding.

Nothing further is heard about planets because there's nothing further to say. There are billions of planets, so more will be discovered and cataloged as a matter of course. Some might be interesting to us (resources, refining our understanding, and - the holy grail - habor life), but the vast majority are boring spheres of rocks or gas. Much like cataloging grains of sand on a beach - most will be boring, but you might come across a particularly interesting one.
How old is science and how old is the HIV virus?

On planet discoveries, the sensationalism science attaches to the said new discoveries will make you think some batches of the 7 billion of the world's population will be transported by 2022.

A sizeable part of science is fraud and I stand by that. While vectors might be from animals to men, lab baked viruses are created, recreated and controlled mostly by pharmaceutical companies for profit.

This guys have a way of keeping us busy. Once in a while you'll always see this kind of news: "new planet with possibility of life discovered". Probe further you'll realize it's oxygen, carbon, hydrogen and water they are referring to.

Really, in your mind now you think mosquito is the sole cause of malaria. Check when malaria started it was that long ago 18xx but they have been mosquitoes since, Plasmodium is the cause of malaria, it was injected into a host(mosquito)

For the main purpose of course, save lives and make the world a better place, that's the purpose of science. Like I have said before science is good and bad, the good side has to greatly outweigh the bad, just imagine if ww3 were to happen, is our lives not going to be worst than mediaeval times? Checkout the greatest regret of Einstein.

Let me just mention one - the beauty of IVF. A couple does not need to wait and pray forever like the Biblical Sarah, if you can afford IVF, you can have your children, even multiple at a time.

I will keep saying that being a scientist does not mean you do not believe in God. The study of planets and discovering of new planets , stars and galaxies have been discovered by Christians and Muslims and Atheist alike. We all know that the universe is very mast and more discoveries will still happen as long as we continue to live. My point is that stop using science as a reason not to believe or dismiss religion .
