Pan- Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere on Monday said the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki has put to death the politics of godfatherism in Edo politics.

Obaseki, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled a total of 307, 955 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress’s Osagie Ize-Iyamu who got 223, 619 votes, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary while also commending INEC, said the victory should spur Obaseki to do more in the next four years.

“It’s a nail on the coffin of godfatherism and politicians who trust in God and have the trust of the people should look them straight in the eyes the way Godwin Obaseki has done. INEC must be commended for a good job and the Edo electorates deserve a pat on on the back for asserting their will in a peaceful atmosphere”.
“The victory is a challenge for Obadeki to work more for Edo” Afenifere said.
