Omg wtf nice furniture so this kind of furniture can be made in Nigeria
Pls federal government should pls ban made in turkey and other imported furnitures
Nice furniture
If they ban import of foreign goods , the demand for the local ones will increase and that might cause the prices of the local ones to Skyrocket which will cause hardship for the consumers, that's the same thing that happened with Rice......instead the government should create ways for the production of such goods to grow both in quantity and quality and the demand for the foreign goods will runs..... it's a technique america uses.

This is really good. If only Nigeria government has sense to make the investment climate friendly. They could be exporting this. But sense is too far from Buhari.

The law of economics eh? See this https://www.tesla.com/support/incentives
The is the US government (Federal and State) basically subsidizing solar and electric vehicle industry up to 40%, depending on what, and state of residence. Left to the law of economics, the EV and solar industry would not survive because it's way too expensive for Americans to afford.

Also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agricultural_subsidy
Why do developed countries support local industries with subsidies for agricultural produce when their citizens can just buy it cheaper from China and Latin America? US farmers get over $20 billion in direct subsidies from their government annually; if you add the support for food stamps (which helps America's working class buy the food they could not really afford) of $68 billion (look it up) you can see USA supports its farm industry with at least $90 BILLION a year. And this is a very very rich country.

And why does US subsidize steel? https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB943834458435506838

This is what governments and citizens do all over the world: pay more to support your industry. Telegraph, telephone, postal services, electricity, Silicon Valley, trains, internet, space, satellites... all these were introduced with government intervention, and supported for decades. Like the US, China supports a crap ton of industries with cheap loans, export subsidies (pay no shipping fees to export your product), and cheap (below cost) electricity.

The law of economics does not support socialism (e.g. public schools, medical care for their elderly or unemployed, or pumping billions of taxpayer money into the stock market), yet this is what the US engages in. Then they turn around and tell us not to support our industries because of "the law of economics".

We can lower the cost by having steady electricity, better roads, low interest loans, removing import tariffs on raw materials, encouraging our leather tanners with incentives, cheap animal feed, and lower transportation costs. Also by subsidizing finished goods with a phase out period.
All these come from the tax payer in one way or another - either directly from income tax, reduction in subsidies in other areas, or guarantees for banks to issue low interest loans. If the government is not at the stage to do this, individual tax payers can help by paying more for these goods.

Unemployment is no justification for being a criminal, that is true. But there is a direct causal link between unemployment and crime. Employ people, crime goes down.

Bear in Mind that the GDP per capita of the countries you listed here are miles ahead of Nigeria's.

Our purchasing power is very low.

How much is our minimum wage to start with?

I understand what you're saying, but it's a distraction. A serious country will take the right steps, no matter what.

Since these Western countries have done this from the start (1800s), you can infer GDP does not matter.. every Western country along the GDP curve has given incentives to help its industry. In fact, the lower a GDP (aka productivity), the more a government's need to subsidize and support its nascent industry. Britain in 1700s, was the template for subsidizing its companies, and this practice has lasted till today:

Many definitions of merchantilism define "Mercantilism to be the basic policy imposed by Britain on its colonies. Mercantilism meant that the government and the merchants became partners with the goal of increasing political power and private wealth, to the exclusion of other empires. The government protected its merchants - and kept others out - by trade barriers, regulations, and subsidies to domestic industries in order to maximise exports from and minimise imports to the realm."

In recent memory, Korea had a GDP lower than Nigeria... (I've rechecked, Korea:$3.9 billion, Nigeria:$4.2 billion in 1960). A former colony of Japan, they were fully devastated by war, rampant infant mortality, starvation, and by every measure in much worse shape than Nigeria at that time. They stimulated their industries - using the same techniques I've outlined, and are now the 12 richest country globally.

What's our excuse again?

Men in the land are visionary and hardworking but the leaders are greedy and selfish and visionless. By now Aba ought to have become industrial hub..but alas..the successive Govt are doing nothing to develop the infrastructure of the place. You see them building palaces as if they won't die forever.
