Chief Charles Idahosa, a former Commissioner for Information in Edo state on Monday said Governor Godwin Obaseki’s victory in Saturday’s governorship election is the biggest birthday gift he has ever received.

Idahosa, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who clocked 67 on September 20, the day the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Obaseki as the winner of the election said the people of Edo have proven to Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Lagos state that they are not slaves who can be bought with money.

While thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for creating an atmosphere for a free and fair election in the state, Idahosa said having successfully liberated Edo from the firm grip of godfathers, their next destination is Lagos state, where Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has maintained political dominance since 1999.

“The governor’s victory in the election is my biggest birthday gift ever. I said so because this is a project I am a major stakeholder in. I have never fought any political battle and lost and I’m glad that we have been able to prove that nobody can take the people of Edo state as slaves”.

“We have proven to Adams Oshiomhole and his likes that Edo is not Lagos. I have always said that Edo may go the way of the opposition given the impunity with which Oshiomhole was running the affairs of APC as national chairman. He feels his words were law and nobody can question him”.

“I have said it severally that only Obaseki can win the governorship election for APC and any attempt to replace him will spell doom for the party. I also said if by omission or commission Obaseki was forced out of the party, APC is dead. I also said we will go anywhere he goes”.

“When Oshiomhole masterminded the qualification of the governor from participating in the APC primary, I knew that was the end of my stay in the party. When Obaseki moved to the PDP, I also moved with my supporters with him to PDP. We knew we were going to win by a landslide because we control the structures in the state”.

“We are closer to the grassroots unlike Oshiomhole who went and bring someone from Lagos with bullion vans, thinking that they can buy the people of Edo with money. So, I am very happy with the victory of Governor Obaseki and the PDP, especially on my 67th birthday. We have successfully liberated Edo from the shackles of godfatherism. Our next port of call is Lagos”.

I can't blame losers whenever they get intoxicated by a tiny victory. Would they have been gloating if Oshiomole was APC chairman, rather, I put the blame squarely on those who connived to remove Oshiomole ahead of Edo election.

As it stands today, Tinubu's influence starts and ends in Lagos, and with what happened in Edo, he has to work very hard to make sure that he retains that influence. Even Aketi is doing all he can to make sure no one associates him with Tinubu so that he can win his own election without troubles.

As at today, Lagos APC has begun reaching out to all aggrieved members so as to close ranks and not allow infiltration. Tinubu has done a lot of harm to a lot of people in Lagos APC and they are looking for a way to break his wings. The last one he did which has created a major problem is the Senatorial ticket he handed over to Abiru who is or was a sitting bank MD, and had done nothing really for APC in Lagos, to the amazement of other dedicated members of the party who were hoping to get it.

The aggrieved members are so downcast that they are almost starting to root for Gbadamosi (PDP) who happens to be from a strong family in Ikorodu.

So take a chill pill bro. Every man has his season. Tinubu had his, but has gone past his peak. He is presently on a decline politically.

As long as Tinubu is alive, Lagos will always be in his pockets
