It should be digitalised and DNA records taken and stored.

Writing it on paper is foolish, I can go and collect twice without them knowing.

They do not know how lucky they are! They can just be swearing affidavit to reset their age when they are job hunting.

That’s how I was surprised that I am now 5 years older than my cousin who was born 4 years before me!

It means a big failure. Births are not registered, deaths are not registered, population estimate never definite, nobody knows who is somewhere and what they do for living - the same way they don't know where Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen are - economy can't be sustainably developed, because the population is amorphous.

That is what political leaders want because it's an atmosphere for crimes which they engender and covertly and overtly supervise.

At last, recognition; it is vital Nigeria keeps population data: births, deaths, marriages, criminals, etc. Without this and border security, forget long term National survival let alone meaningful progress on all the poverty alleviating indicators set out by UN/WHO.

If they make the birth certificate free of charge and compulsory for nursery and primary school registration, more than 90% of Nigerian children will have by 2030.

Without birth certificate you can’t prove citizenship and may as well be a foreigner. Encourage new Nigerian mothers to insist hospitals show them how to go about registering their newborn.
Re: UNICEF: 57% Nigerian Children Don’t Have Birth Certificates by emmyN(m): 9:19pm On Sep 22, 2020
It's fair if they were talking about adults. But children in this present generation, that is a blatant lie and an overblown statistic. Sometimes these international bodies are responsible for soiling our image in the international community, making some average Joes yonder to see Africa as a jungle angry.
