Gunmen kill 5 family members in Jos

The entire Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State was thrown into confusion on Monday, following the gruesome murder of five members of the same family by some unknown assailants in the early hours of the day.

The Nigerian Tribune learnt that the unfortunate incident occurred at about 1.00a.m in Kuru when the assailants numbering about eight sneaked into the house of a family simply identified as Davou and snuffed lives out of five of them while two members of the family escaped with injuries.

A source who witnessed the incident told the Nigerian Tribune that the assailants armed with guns and other dangerous weapons shot the five family members at close range before they were butchered with cutlass while the other two members of the family received machete cuts while trying to flee the premises.

The source further disclosed that after the dastardly act, the assailants released several gun shots into the air to scare away people adding that security men arrived the scene shortly after they had left.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Abdulrahaman Akano, who confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune said five family members were killed in the attack and two escaped with serious injuries.

Mr. Akano who stated that the incident had no link with the recent spate of crisis in the state said from all indications, the attack looked like a personal vendetta adding that the assailants restricted their wicked act to just one family.

According to him, criminals are gradually taking over, using the unfortunate situation in the state to launch attack on people considered to be their enemies adding that the men of his command, have swung into action to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

He, therefore, appealed to the people of the state to have confidence in the police and come up with information that would assist the police to arrest those behind the crime.

It would be recalled that a similar barbaric incident occurred at the Federal School of Land Resources Technology situated within the locality two weeks ago, leading to the death of some principal staff of the school.
