...the Beginning And End Of Godfatherism In Abia: (The Edo Example) The social media has for some time been awash with vitriolic attacks on well– meaning Abians, who have dared to comment on the ill–advised and shameful face–saving visits of members of the T.A Orji clan, to the Abuja residence of distinguished senator Orji Uzor Kalu. It is needless to state herein the details of these visits and the exchanges, as same had in the past been variously canvassed. Prior to these visits, Mr. Chinedum Orji had in a well– attended meeting of the Abia State caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held at the banquet hall of Government House Umuahia, threatened to exit the PDP should the party make good its plan of zoning out the State Chairmanship position out of his Abia Central Senatorial zone. Mr. Chinedum Orji deprecated the attempt to violate his desire of retaining the Chairmanship slot in his Senatorial Zone, and, vowed that there will be dire consequences for the PDP in the State should they go ahead to zone out the Chairmanship slot. There was an almost 2-minute grave yard silence in the full packed banquet hall consisting of the Governor, Deputy–Governor, Senator Adolf Wabara, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Chief Tony Ukasanya, Chief Acho Wakanma, Senator Enyinnaya Abariba amongst other eminent Abians after Chinedum’s outburst. The banquet hall came back to life when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe sprang to his feet and condemned in very strong terms the insult and vituperations poured on all the eminent attendees as contained in the threat of Mr. Chinedum Orji. He told Mr. Chinedum Orji in unmistakable terms, that he was too young and inexperienced in the game of politics to address them in the manner he did, and, that not even his father will dare address them in such a disrespectful manner. The frank and courageous condemnation of Mr. Chinedum Orji’s threat was all that was needed to cut him to size, thereby clearing the hurdle for the emergence of a State Chairman of the PDP in the person of Hon. Asiforo Okere. While members of the State Caucus of the PDP left the meeting pounding their chest that they had for once secured a victory over imperial Chinedum Orji, those of us who are acquainted with his character traits knew that his feeble apology to the Caucus over his choice of words was only a ploy to shift or fast – forward the battle ground. Chinedum Orji’s unwarranted and needless visit after his parents’ visit and his rehearsed choice of words was to make good his threat of ridiculing the PDP and the Governor over the State PDP Chairmanship slot. The preceding paragraphs might look diversionary from the theme and main purpose of this write up, but it is intended to lay a foundation and afford one a glimpse as to how a young man whose only credential is that he had been fortunate enough to have his father as Governor of the State, dominates the State and its citizens. There is indeed a grand design by this young man to turn Abia State to a domain of the blind, the deaf and the dumb. What Chinedum Orji and members of his family desire is an Abia State where the citizens see no wrong, hear no wrong and say no wrong. They desire a State where all the citizens are emasculated, depraved and deprived. They desire a State where all the citizens live in fear, cajoled and bottled up. A State where anything goes with its citizens deprived of all facts of basic fundamental rights, including that of freedom of expression. Unfortunately, their desire of turning most Abians into beggars who file out every day with plates to their Azikiwe Road, Umuahia, palatial estate and their Abuja residences for daily meal have been accomplished. They desire an Abia State filled with praise singers who sing their praise every minute and hour of the day, yelling “Ikuku Abia”, “Ochendo Global” and “Osinulo Nigeria” to high heavens. Regrettably, Abia State may be in want of every other thing but not praise singers. Many years of hunger, deprivation and joblessness have made most Abians handy and easy meal for Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji in his determined bid to accomplish his desires. Even those who had at some point come to some reasoning and abandoned Chinedum's mesh of porridge have had cause after months of hunger to go back to him. This indeed is the sorry and pitiable state of Abia State at the moment. Expectedly, the widely publicized visit of the Orjis' to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu elicited comments and reactions from well– meaning Abians, most of them in condemnation. In response to these comments Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji has oiled his attack machinery for purposes of ridiculing and gagging all those people who dared to speak on the matter. Many misguided and depraved young persons have been engaged as attack dogs on these well – meaning Abians. His mandate to these attack dogs is to libel, defame, ridicule and threaten these Abians, all in a bid to ward off any form of opposition to the views and desire of their imperial pay master – Chinedum Orji. Their first victim was Hon. Don Ubani and shortly thereafter Eze Chikamnayo. Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe who has almost lived a life of servitude to the Orji clan and in particular Chinedum Orji, was not spared from the onslaught of these attack dogs. Equally in the line of victims is our accomplished former Attorney – General and Commissioner for Justice Umeh Kalu, SAN, who was also ridiculed following comments he made in a Sunday Sun Newspaper interview. The man whose bell is tolling and placed on the slaughter slab of the social media attack dogs at the moment is Chief Obinna Oriaku, the immediate past Commissioner for Finance. While the pack of Don Ubani, Chikamnayo, Cosmos and Umeh were ridiculed and threatened by Chinedum Orji's social media attack dogs for their effrontery at expressing their view on the visit of the Orjis' to OUK, Obinna Oriaku's traducers have descended on him at the instance of their pay master, for volunteering comments on the way forward for Abia State. One common denominator in all these, is that all the above Five (5) “condemned” Abians, by Chinedum Orji and his team dared to speak up and obviously made contributions contrary to the desire and interest of Abia's imperial Chinedum Orji. Can any sane and reasonable individual fault or question the validity and sound reasoning contained in the comments of Don Ubani, Cosmos, Chikamnayo, and Chief Umeh on the needless, insensitive and irresponsible comments made by Chinedum Orji during his visit to OUK – a man his family had demonized for over a decade despite drawing them out from the pangs of hunger onto a life of opulence? Nobody has so far placed a lie or faulted the opinions of Obinna Oriaku in his now controversial interview. Has anybody denied the analysis he made between Abia and Ebonyi over cost of governance? Has anyone denied the profligacy he identified in Abia's expenditure pattern and the State's inability to raise her IGR? Which State House of Assembly in the country runs a capital budget? Which State in the country doles out more than 10 Million Naira per month as salary to House of Assembly members? If we don't like the faces of the above messengers, what of their messages? If all these attacks on the above well – meaning Abians is in furtherance of the pervading scheme of bottling all Abians of dissent, this is the end of the scheme. Everything that has a beginning must have an end. There is a ground swell of dissenters gathering storm within the horizon who have been en–amoured rather than cowed by these attacks on these respected Abians. It is an irony and a grave mistake to take the silence of Abians for weakness. The coming weeks, months and years ahead will be interesting as evil has an expiry. We must place Abia State and all the misdeeds and plundering that has kept her at the lowest rung of the ladder in the public domain. Those who are afraid of the truth and the solution to Abia's myriad of problems should prepare a graveyard or a detention center for the legion of Abians that will soon join the band. The imperial pay master and his attack dogs should get prepared for a battle royale in the weeks ahead. The re-election of Godwin Obasieki is the icing as road has come to end for godfathers...In Abia a family dictate who is nominated to office and this has been on for many years...Its unfortunate that Azikwe road has been turned to a mecca since the announcement of the proposed local government election as everybody struggles to get the attention of Chinedum Orji , a man who never earned a salary untill he rigged himself into the house of Assembly in 2015 but has amassed so much wealth...The irony is that the Governor's brothers from Obingwa are also struggling for the blessing and support of this godfather even when their brother is the Governor ... Abians have risen to say enough of all these manipulations that have held us back as a State. 1 Share
