My certificates have become useless. I graduated in 2008, passed out of NYSC in 2010. Till date I have not used my certificates for anything. Sorry about your situation.
The truth is that anybody that wants to attain tertiary education should sit down and plan how that particular knowledge will help him/her immediately, taking note of our environment. That is the reason Medical courses are Competitive because to an extent it is a knowledge that could be applied almost immediately after graduation.

people should stop going to the University to study just " any course" except you have a plan of course, if you don't have a plan, just use that 4 or 5 years (if ASUU allows) to learn a skill in order to avoid a rude shock!

I'm sure if your wife had learned this tailoring instead of going to the University to spend years+NYSC+ years looking for a job, she would have become a big Madam today or at least comfortable.

Everything in Nigeria Nowadays is Planning!
Buh courses like economics, political science, public administration, mass com, n sociology and anthropology even archeology are not really practicable, everybody can't be science student.

For those saying the reason for going to school wasn't to secure a good job, then why didn't they just teach us ethics and human relationships than putting us through the hell of multiple equations and wasting our time. the truth is education in Nigeria is a big lie. you're on your own after NYSC.

I will be sincere here. You don't go to university to learn a skill. You go to university to be educated and a product of your education is your certificate.
If you want to learn a skill go to a technical college or a vocational school. If you think Mark Zuckerberg is still a drop out till date ehn you must be A BIG FOOL.
If not that Nigeria has a failed system, why will you struggle to enter university and at the end still be jobless.
People are learning skills because Nigeria failed them not because it is necessary.
How many doctors in Nigeria no anything asides medicine in Nigeria.
Someone that studied Business Administration is selling Soft drinks and you think that is what she wanted?
I studied Mechanical engineering and I am now in the Agriculture sector selling Cassava,Yam Maize, Rearing farm animals, constructed a mini barn and silo because of no job even if it is my business, is it what I studied for?
If learning a skill and going for my degree is what is contemporary in Nigeria then I weep for Nigeria.
A biologist becoming a Tailor, A lawyer becoming a cybercafe owner, an Engineer becoming a Cashier, An Agriculturist becoming a banker. Is that the core of their professions.
I BLAME ALL NIGERIA FOOLISH UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES OF EDUCATION ,POLYTECHNICS FOR OFFERING COURSES THAT GUARANTEES ONE UNEMPLOYMENT AND THE STUPID EDUCATION BOARD FOR ACCREDITING SUCH COURSES AND MOST IMPORTANTLY I BLAME NIGERIANS FOR VOTING THE WRONG PEOPLE FOR 21 YEARS NOW.
GOD HAVE MERCY ON THIS GENERATION.

One of the major mistake majority of people make is believing they're entitled to a job simply because they studied.
Life will not just hand you a job simply you went to the university. Dude! There are more people than jobs! Think about it!
The earlier we realize that and start making plans B C D, the less likely we'll be disappointed.
Also, have in mind that the main reason you went to the university is to become a better version of yourself, not to feel entitled to a job.
If you get a job, fine, if not, YOU CARVE YOUR OWN NICHE!

No man is ever without potential. There's more to you than a job.
Stop feeling angry or sorry for yourself.
Open your mind and explore all possibilities.
Remember this: those with jobs are simply paid to build other people's dream.
Build your own dream.

The days when being a graduate with a degree certificate means automatic employment are long gone. Everybody is a graduate now, nothing special to that. Employers are looking for life skills, not certificates. Those life skills, like networking, public speaking, taking initiative, solving problems, collaborating on projects, etc, cannot be taught in school. You have to teach yourself what employers are looking for and then you take the bull by the horns and start solving problems wherever you are. If you keep doing that you are sure to be noticed by the right people eventually. I'll repeat it again, employers don't care about certificates nowadays.

Tear them or.
You are a product of a terrible teacher
Go to any school and ask the students to identify the subject they dislike most. Many of them will chorus “mathematics”. What makes student harbour a passionate hatred for this subject still remains a mystery for most educationist  .

. Many reasons have been proposed . One which seems to be overlooked is the fact that students do not feel connected to the subject in anyway  . Imagine spending hours finding ” x” when “x” is neither your brother or your sister only to search for “x the following day. It is not only routinal but boring. The student begins to wonder whether to use the same formula to find his biro.  This is because the teacher failed to explain to him the application of these formulas in real life situation.

Many mathematics teachers were top in their classes when they were students. When they are not learning in class, they are studying in the library. They spend little time socialising  and having fun     . They grow up to become an expert in mathematics but deficient in relating same to the student . They begin a topic by introducing an abstract theory and leave the student wondering how this theory concerns his life.

They do not deserve to be blamed. They only repeated what was handed over to them by their teacher  . Garbage in garbage out. They can choose to create a new tomorrow.

We can have outstanding mathematician but terrible teachers of mathematics. Great mathematics Teachers begin by stimulating the interest of the student. Students who are less than fourteen years of age are emotionally focused. They tend to feel more and rationalise less .

Simultaneous Equation. : Divide the children into groups of 4 .Ask tleaxh group to go to four different shops . Give each group #200 to buy pencil and biro  .total amount of both items  should be six. Compare each group answer. . Solve on the board. Which group got it right?

Speed : Take student outside  Measure any point A about 100m apart. Get each student to walk fast or run from point A to B and get another student to record time against the student. After each student must have done dat, take them back to the class and calculate the speed of three students. The remaining students should calculate their own  walking speed.

Volume of cylinder : Tell student to bring any empty milk ,or tomatoes container to class. Using ruler, they watch you measure the height and Diameter and repeat the same for their container. After that, you calculate the volume or area using formula method and watch them do the same  .

Average : each student is given a company name and asked to go to the library and get the prices of shares for nine consecutive days. They are to find the moving average of five

Area  The student measure the length and breadth of one class room tile  . Student count the number of tile in the class and find the product.

One way we make mathematics boring is that we do not involve the student in getting the data. We spoon feed them the data . In real life, they have to know how to get the data themselves.  Getting them to measure it themselves makes them engaged. One parent told me his child measures everything he can lay his hands on at home . After measurement, he would begin to calculate  . Things got out of hand when the television fell off. These method make class lovely, children interesting and active participant in the learning process, .Soon children will begin to love the subject

I don't believe Nigeria is ripe for some courses. Courses that equip one with hard skills and/or specialisations are what I recommend. The labour market is looking for value and experience and these cannot easily be proven by a sociology graduate for example (with all due respect to those who studied the course).

I used Medicals because it has a clear path in Nigeria. In a sane environment, I'm sure those courses you listed would be applied in our everyday life. Do we have a clear path for these courses in Nigeria??
Every course has its application in our environment whether art or science.

Even Medicals are now frustrated because it ain't easy anymore but its still better.

You're not alone on this. I'm a university graduate too. I've never done any good job with my certificate. The worst of it all is the 3 good years I wasted earning 30k on Npower. But I'm financially okay. Not because I went to school, but because I took advantage of Investments. That has been my saving grace

Let's be factual here Sir, our school system and curriculum has never actually been friendly, there's an overwhelming need for us to do it rightly.
School is important but you developing yourself is IMPORTANTER. Oga, nobody want to employ someone whom all he has is educational certificate. Sir, add skills real life skills that are relatable, build yourself, no add excessive load that you cannot bear.
If you become better I assure you someone would refer you.
NB: The Nigerian Educational Curriculum seeks to solve a 21st Century problem with a 19th Century ideology, make yourself better.

Another copycat of the so called graduate who set fire on his certificates.

It shows that you and all the other "school na scam" gang were absentee students who did not pay attention to what was going in the University. The usual last to enter class and first to leave. Who did not learn anything to prepare them for real life.

If they were attentive, they would have known that school was not about the certificate but that it was the fertile ground where young people are free to express themselves and develop survival skills that will prepare them for the struggle ahead.
