School feeding scam: Borno court sentences man to 125 years in prison

- Justice has caught up with four suspects who allegedly defrauded a company under the guise of executing a fake school feeding contract

- The suspects were charged to court by the EFCC over the alleged fraud

- One of the suspects, Allen Abel pleaded guilty to the charges against him and was convicted

A Borno State High Court has sentenced one Allen Abel to a cumulative term of 125 years in prison over a fake school feeding contract. Abel and three other suspects were accused of fraudulently obtaining food items from Lele Foresight Construction Company valued at N12, 879,800.00. The suspects had pretended like they were contracted under the school feeding scheme.
The EFCC disclosed that the four suspects had pretended to execute a school feeding contract for the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development (FMHDSD).
The commission prosecuted them on a 20-count charge that borders on forgery, possession of false documents, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. One of the accused, Abel pleaded guilty to the twenty count charges and was sentenced by Justice Kumaliya on Wednesday, September 30.
The EFCC said: "As the resumed hearing on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 Justice Kumaliya sentenced Abel to 7 years imprisonment each on counts 1 to 6, and 9 without an option of fine; 5 years imprisonment each on counts 7, 8 and 11-20 respectively without an option of fine. All sentences are to run consecutively." Meanwhile, in its efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption and corrupt practices, the EFCC has recovered over N4.16 billion unremitted funds from lottery companies in the country. Channels TV reported that the lottery companies failed to remit the unpaid revenue to the coffers of the government. Legit.ng gathered that the acting chairman of the EFCC, Mohammed Umar Abbah, in a statement issued on Thursday, September 24, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the ministerial taskforce for the recovery of unpaid revenues from the lottery businesses.
