Some persons don't see any big deal in birthday celebration, even when others said such celebration is against the Bible, there is always fierce attack . The Fact that some persons against birthday celebrations does not mean they don't appreciate Life, no, they only meant that Life is to be appreciated everyday and also recognize that the origin of Birthdays is not from God.

Don't throw stones yet. Let's look into the scriptures and see why we know Birthdays are not from God.

For a Fact : Birthdays celebration originated in EGYPT.

During the periods of the isrealites stay, they must have witnesses a lot of Egyptians celebrating their birthdays, one of such cases was recorded, that of pharaoh.

After the isrealites left Egypt, God gave an unusual command.

Leviticus 18:3 " Do not follow the practices of the people of Egypt, where you once lived "

One of such practices is Birthdays celebration, the Fact that none of the isrealites replicate this Act of birthday celebration proves this Fact

The Jews generally avoided birthdays even until the days of Jesus Christ , the early apostles whom were Jews set the early precedence as they also consider Birthdays to be of pagan custom.

Did God ban birthdays... Leviticus 18:3 is your answer.

Almost every church leader celebrates birthday these days, but I don't think Jesus or any of His apostles would have had anytime for such egoistic observation in my opinion, when they have more important kingdom matters to attend to, having denied themselves and taken up their crosses for the sake of God's kingdom.

I don't think it's a sin though.

Is birthday of pagan origin or not?

I think these things should not even come up in religous discussions since they dont have anything to do with the message of salvation. Birthday is like other anniversaries and shouldn't be discarded cause one wants to go to heaven. Maybe the disciples wouldn't have had time for it but let those who have time for it enjoy it. The disciples didn't have time to go to the gym too, they also didn't study math or play football. Are we going to deny ourselves all these cause of how they lived thier lives in their own time and culture? Let's stop making it look as if Christianity is all about suffering. #MyOpinion

My guy, Barristter07, when pesin dey cry, despite the tears, pesin go still sabi see road waka well. Fyi my learned friend, Leviticus 18:3, just like almost every other verse that God lays down the law, is always hinges on idolatry. If the celebration or marking of birthdays has connection with idolatry practices or is associated with pagan ritualistic being done, then God wouldnt have any hands or party, excuse the pun, lmso, with it.

Birthday aren't unequivocally banned anywhere in the Bible. Celebrating birthdays have their pros and cons. Two birthdays were recorded been celebrated in the Bible. The first had Joseph rescued from languishing in jail for a crime he didnt commit, albeit a chief baker, was beheaded on that day. The second was when another innocent person, John the Baptist, Yahshua Ha Mashiach aka Jesus Christ' cousin, was beheaded because of a promise one wrong.

Celebrating birthday is a prerogative. Personally, I am not into celebrating my birth day because every day is a celebration day, lmso. Praise God. Alleluia

The kinds of silly things we base our minds on is really appalling.

Celebrating your birthdays is of no significance as we celebrate each and everyday as a testimony of the mercy of God.

But it being the day you were born only makes that particular day more special. We shouldn't even be discussing this as it really as no bearing with being a Christian. I wonder why you teach what you should be a prerogative of an individual as a doctrine and want to see it as a sin because it started with the Egyptians.

I beg to differ, because i think such celebrations could lead to sin, and sinning could lead to the loss of one's salvation, so it's certainly worth discussing.

Have you never had of someone who stole something or some money just to celebrate his birthday?

Or those who fell into temptation like committing formication just because they were celebrating their birthdays?

The day a certain man in the Bible celebrated his birthday provided an opportunity, for the enemies of the forerunner of Jesus who wanted him to be murdered, to have their wish, which they couldn't have before that.

So these concerns about birthday celebrations are not unwarranted, but very justifiable even if you choose to ignore it.

It's not by force, but just my opinion.

Birthday celebration is egoistic and hence not supposed to be celebrated by the true followers of Jesus.

When David said in Psalms...give us wisdom to number our days... Simply means every time u have d opportunity to celebrate ur birthday, pls do it well and thank God for being alive. My thought though.
