Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, on Thursday said the state governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu is a very honest, frank and truthful leader who  will not deceive the people and make promises he can't fulfill just because he wants people's votes.


According to him, that was the basis why the people of Ondo elected the governor in 2016 and are prepared to renew the mandate for another four years this Saturday.


Ojogo was responding to the statement by Akeredolu at Wednesday's debate on the issue of tuition of the state-owned university, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba- Akoko.


When asked by Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if he was prepared to reduce the tuition of the university, Akeredolu who was seeking reelection on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had declined, saying he will not allow students in the state get half-baked education just because they want to pay pittance.


He added that his insistence on qualitative education has made the university the best state-owned university in Nigeria today.


According to him "It is not something I believe  this state cannot do. I am not prepared to do it because we have responsibilities and those responsibilities were put on us by the government you served in". 


"I believe that it is for the good of our people that our students must go to universities and have proper education, not half-baked education. Not because you are paying pittance, we cannot give them proper education. That is why today, Adekunle Ajasin is the best state university in Nigeria".


Speaking with Daily Independent, Ojogo said many residents of the state who values good and quality education agree with the position of the governor. He added that it is only the oppositon who are making a fuss out of it in order to score cheap political points.


" The good people of Ondo know their governor as a sincere leader who will not promise what he cannot do just to get votes. Arakunrin Akeredolu will never say things he cannot do. He will tell you the truth no matter whose ox is gored and the people of Ondo who are men and women of goodwill and integrity lovd him for that".



" Governor Akeredolu's administration has reduced the tuition of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko after findings on the fee payable on some courses in Universities across the Southwest states, particularly, the Lagos State University (LASU)". 



"Unlike when the immediate past administration was earning N9 Billion to N12 Billion, the Akeredolu administration has been earning less than N5 Billion from the FAAC. Yet, he has managed the three state owned Universities with an unprecedented achievements in Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) and others". 


" A lot of people agree with him that students shouldn't be given half-baked education just because they are paying pittance fees.They have also seen that he has justified the increment of the fees through rehabilitation of the schools in the state and quality of education the students are receiving. The opposition know this but they will not want to admit just because they want to deceive people to get votes".
