Bitter complaints by the indigenes of Gombe and Adamawa states crying out loud for the deplorable condition of the federal high way from Gombe to Yola under construction is suffering a serious setback and delays.

A virtual meeting of concerned people from these two-states has revealed that mass protest is on the way,the last option they have to salvage the situation of the road that is claiming hundreds of lives because of its present condition.

In their meeting Thursday afternoon, suggestion were taken to give the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammad Buhari and the Federal Ministry of Works under Barrister Babatunde Fashola a ten days optimum to assure Nigerians of fixing the road on due time or to go for a peaceful protest.

The WhatsApp online meeting under a group name of #fix Yola-Gombe Road members suggested the closing down Savannah sugar company, the shutting down the road and Yola International airport as the only option of getting the government attention.

Discussions at the meeting were largely concentrated on how socio-economy activities are badly affected and lives and properties worth billion of naira are on weekly basis destroyed.

According to them is annoying or a rather question of thought without an answer is the laggard ongoing work in the Numan/Lamurde taking you to Gombe since 2016, the heart breaking area is the domain of Savannah sugar company, ( Dangwate Sugar company).

One Desh said the less attention by officials and those in the place of authority to complete the Yola parts of the road is becoming a call for concern.

According to him Lamurde and Numan LGAs is the base of Dangote group of company that is mostly referred to as Dangote Sugar in Southern Senatorial Zone of Adamawa state. This is where the road is worst and badly damaged, inflicting untold hardship, fears have grounded the economic potentials of the areas.

Recall that the Administration of President Olusegun Aremu Mathew Obasanjo has constantly featured the 240 kilometres road from Gombe to Yola into budgets because of its aged long delipidated and unmotorable state after many years of neglect. The road is still suffering neglect under President Muhammadu Buhari administration despite contract awarded to CGC company.

For over two years into the life of the multi-billion naira contract, Nigerians plying the road are not elated about the progress of the project.

The federal government awarded the contract for the completion of the rehabilitation of the Gombe-Numan-Yola road to Triacta Nigerian Limited and Chinese Geo-engineering Company (CGC).

While Triacta Nigeria Limited undertakes the Gombe to Kaltungo portion of the road, CGC is to rebuild the road from Kaltungo to Numan.

The phase-II of the project, located in Gombe State, is to cover the road from Gombe to Kaltungo, which covers a distance of 83km. Earlier in March, motorists plying Gombe-Numan-Yola highway were assured that the ongoing construction work on the Gombe-Kaltungo axis would be completed by June.

The Project Manager of the road, Imran Khan, told the Director Federal High Way, North-East at the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Rufai Mohammed, that over 45 kilometres out of the 68 kilometres from the Gombe – Kaltungo axis of the road had been completed.
