F-SARS Should Be Reformed Not Disbanded – Kwara NANS by owolabi1105: 8:32pm On Oct 09, 2020 |
The Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Kwara Axis, Salami Wasiu, on Wednesday, said the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) need total reformation, and not disbandment. The reactions came on the heels of protests calling for the disbandment of the police unit in some states of the federation, including Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. The student leader, who condemned the incessant brutality and extra-judicial killings by SARS, said the police department needs reformation. Salami stated, “The mode of FSARS operation is sometimes illegal. I have, few months ago, reported them to the Commissioner for Police (Kwara) on the way they harass students at off-campus residential hostels and students’ communities. “However, most of those clamouring for #EndSars are those doing illegitimate profession, those who are the reasons why the department was created. “Thus, I don’t support the campaign to end SARS. Rather, the department should be reformed.” Source: The Informant247
