Starzo: Please don't say so, Italians are good in construction. In Europe when you talk of construction you talk of Italians, Germans, Spanish and Portuguese. |

raymondFirstborn:Most of the building in Nigeria 90% even in 98% of African countries for users like families, apartments do you think a civil engineer was contracted? You get money to pay? mind you buildings by civil engineer use engineering block not those 9 inches blocks. It is quite expensive but the longevity outweighs the short term loss. |

Adonis86:Have you done an investigation to ascertain the cause of the collapse of the building? If there is good civil engineers in Nigeria, there would have started an investigation to know the root cause of the collapse in Lagos especially with the numerous building collapse. It is certain all what you mentioned can not be the case until an investigation is done. There's this civil engineer I know very well, he is a project manager that was contracted worked with quality materials, no poor workmanship or whatsoever, he had 13year of experience from Europe, he studied in Europe, and had many experience from there, got his license from there too. Was involved in a bridge construction, it collapse killed about 30 people or so, his license was revoke, he can not practice or do anything engineering whatsoever in his life again but what saved him was everything according to standard was followed and quality was ensured, he spent up to 15 years in prison after that he became a tutor. That bridge took decades before it was constructed after his arrest because there was a very strong wind that brought the bridge down at particular season of the year, though not in Nigeria it happened. So my advice is whatever you do ensure you follow the standard and quality from beginning to end it will only be your evidence to proof that you are innocent. |

RealAlubarika:True talk, when it comes to construction Italians are superb, it is in Nigeria I have seen so far hiring Chinese and Lebanese. For example in Ghana they use Italian, Brazilians, Germans for most of their government construction work, not until recently Chinese loans came in to most African countries. There's this certified civil engineer I know very well, he is a project manager that was contracted worked with quality materials, no poor workmanship or whatsoever, he had 13year of experience from Europe, he studied in Europe, and had many experience from there, got his license from there too. Building construction and designs have been reduced to a mere business venture in Nigeria.... A Client is trying to save cost but will end up chasing away the Engineer's specifications to use his cousin or nephew who claims to have full knowledge of site work immediately the project comes up ... Buying of material becomes a tussle...... The Engineer if not well grounded in professional ethics will use because of hunger in Buhari government to continue working...... Nigeria no balance at all....... Contact good Professional Architect and Engineer Work with a Client that understands the ethics of construction or quit the work to save your integrity........ If the Engineer handling this collapsed building is not a registered Engineer with COREN...... His case will be a murder case...... |

News of collapse have been on the increase especially this peak season of the rain. The disheartening part of the story is that the building is still under construction. The professionals in the built environment have a lot to do to safeguard future occurrence. We need to get back on our feet and explore more on researches, professional development etc to double our inputs on methods that will improve the services of building production.
