One thing the deity does which the people do not like, is that, if it kills a person spiritually due to some promises the person made in front of it which he didn't fulfil, or that someone reported another person to it and the person whom the other person reported was really guilty of what he was reported for and he didn't want to make amends, or that someone fabricated a lie on someone else while trying to report the person to the deity and the deity finds out that the person who was trying to submit a report was actually the person that needed to mend his ways but he refused to make amends.., then the person whom the deity found wanting (and killed spiritually) will eventually die physically after some given period of time if he didn't do as the deity had directed...
And then, once the person finally dies, the deity would demand that the corpse be brought to the shrine so that it can rot and decay in its presence without burial.
If the corpse is not brought to the shrine, that's where the deity starts going extra.
Relatives of the person would continue to die off one after the other (in no particular order), until the people start to ask questions (and then maybe, go back to the deity to do some sacrifices of cows or goats to allow the deity rest.)
