Following crisis emanating from ownership of a landed property hit the village, Indigenes of Uruebo village in Nkwelle Ezunaka community of Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State have lamented that over 60 of their youths have remained missing for months.

An 89-year-old community leader, Chief Abel Okafor, who was part of the villagers who came out to protest at the village square on Sunday, said three of his sons were also among those missing.

Okafor who addressed journalists during the protest said besides the over 60 missing young men from the village, 11 others have been languishing in prison for about six months now, after they were arrested by security agents on the order of a Catholic priest, Reverend Father Emmanuel Obimma, who is popularly known as Ebube Muonso, who is also an indigene of the area.

Okafor said, “Ebube Muonso brought a combined team of security men to our community, and told them to arrest all the youths in the village. He said youths of the village were planning to kidnap him.

“11 young men were arrested for over six months now, and have been languishing in prison. Youths of this community have all fled to unknown destinations, and since then, we have been looking for our children, including three of my sons,” he said.

Speaking on the genesis of the crisis, another community leader, Chief Augustine Okadigbo, said Charles Obimma, elder brother to Emmanuel Obimma was elected leader of the village six years ago, and after two mandatory tenures, he refused to handover.

“We suspect he want to cling to power because he has been using his influence as the leader of the village to sell off landed properties owned communally.

THE TRUE STORY ON FR. EBUBE MUONSO AND NKWELLE EZUNAKA SAGA

YOUTHS OF NKWELLE- EZUNAKA ARE MISGUIDED

ATTACK ON FR. EBUBE MUONSO IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTED

PROLOGUE

“Only in his home town, among his relatives and in his own house is a “Priest” without honour”- (Mark 6:1-6)

The more corrupted humanity became, the more confronting uncorrupted individuals were, and the more they were denied honour or recognition or acknowledgement, even amongst his kinsmen; what alienation was separating itself from, was the truthful, sound world of the soul. In a world almost devoid of soul, an emissary from the soul’s world, which is what a “Priest” is, was actively denied and outcast by persecution, and even eliminated by murder.

The basic activity of resigned humans was not to honour the sound, truthful, soulful and just existence that Priests represented. While the presence of truthful Priest was something humans tried to ignore and even destroy, over time they also came to need and appreciate- even to the point of revering- that presence. It is difficult for resigned, egocentric humans to acknowledge the gifts of any individual when that individual was in their presence, closely related or kinsman, nearby or even still alive.

THE STORY

The Revered, charismatic and unassuming Priest of Onitsha Archdiocese, The Rector of Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Umudioka and the Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, Uke, Anambra State, Nigeria; Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel C Obimma (Ebube Muonso) was on 12th of June, 2020 attacked in his home country in Nkwelle Ezunaka, in Oyi Local Government of Anambra State. According to the popularly cleric, he was attacked after Burial Mass at his home Parish St. Williams Catholic Church, Nkwelle Ezunaka on that said day. The Priest having been touched by the deadly activities of cult groups in his community, which includes; rape, thuggery, hooliganism, etc, as an “alter christus” (Another Christ) preached against those vices during the homily; calling the youths and those involved in such vices to desist from doing so, hence they incur the wrath of God. Fr. Ebube Muonso went further to expose the ills happening in his home community, the brutal attacks on elders, the incessant raping of young girls and women, the constant unleashing of mayhem on innocent residents in the community, and so many others.

The fearless priest drew the attention of the villagers to be prayerful but to be wise as serpent, for the devil is roaring around seeking for whom to devour. The villagers were astonished and happy that Fr. Ebube Muonso has stood in the gap for them, to end the long overdue intimidation, and fear that has made them to always sleep with their two eyes open.

ATTACK ON FR. EBUBE MUONSO

After the burial service, while people where trooping in numbers towards Fr. Ebube Muonso for blessings, alongside his mother, who later invited his son for a discussion at home. While at home, the wife of the priest’s brother alerted him that some group of cultist notoriously known as ‘Searchlight’ were outside the gate chanting their war songs, while threatening violence on the priest. The Priest thought it was an empty threat/ joke; on his way to his Parish of assignment, the dangerous cultists invaded the priest with dangerous weapons; they threw stones at him, damaged his vehicle; the Priest had to alert the security apparatus of the State to avoid further violence on him and the community. Even with the arrival of the combined team of police and army, who arrived to restore normalcy and avoid further violence meted to the priest and the community by the cult group; who were still adamant and stubborn, while still unleashing their weapons. The security warned them to drop their weapon while the Priest pleaded with them not to shoot anyone.
The popular Priest of God asserted that since his birth and sojourn as a Priest, he has never been attacked in this manner; talk more of being attacked by his own people. “I have been hearing of their nefarious in that community; but I was always in prayers and waiting for the right time, because I am a very busy person”, the priest asserted.

ARREST OF THE NOTORIOUS CULTISTS
Following the incident, in-order to put an end to the heinous crimes orchestrated by those thugs in the community, the Priest wrote a petition against them; eleven of them were arrested by the police. They were tried in the court of law, and equally remanded in the correctional centre as a corrective measure to deter them and others from future occurrence.

BLACKMAILERS AND FALSE NEWS PEDDLERS ON FR. EBUBE MUONSO
Sponsors and allies of the notorious cultists in the correctional centre that escaped arrest started blackmailing the Priest for putting an end to their heinous crimes. In Igbo connotation “ala adighi mma bu uru ndi nze”, hence some bad elders and chiefs derive joy when the community is in turmoil. They started peddling all sorts of falsehood against the Priest on social media. There claim was that the Priest grabbed their lands, about two hundred (200) plots of land in Nkwelle- Ezunaka; whereas in reality, the revered Priest of God doesn’t have any iota of land in that village. Truth is universal and the people knew then that the reason for attacking the Priest was because of preaching against cultism and bad activities in the community. The most notorious of the cult group known as “Searchlight cult” are known for raping young girls; parents who send their daughters on errands in the community get shocked when their girls return with tears and complaint that they were defiled by searchlight cultists, what a bad antecedents and taboo going on for long in Nkwelle Ezunaka. They torture and whip innocent elderly people that stood in their way to fight against their evil activities.

VICTIM OF THE DREADED CULTISTS’ LAMENTS HER ORDEALS

A victim of the dreaded cult group has lamented her ordeals in the hands of the cultists.
According to the woman who chose anonymity, disclosed to the media, how she was harassed, beaten to stupor and stripped naked in the company and presence of her son. The cultists asserted that they did that to the woman simply because she looked at them.
It is also on record that whenever people who has no regard for the rule of law, ruthless and wicked have cases in the community, they would contract these cultists to fight for them.
Suffix it to say that an average indigene and resident in Nkwelle- Ezunaka would prefer to be taken to the police and charged to court than for them to fall into the hands of these dreaded boys.
They instigate fear, suppress and inflict injuries on people. They engage in all sorts of criminality not excluding broad day robbery. They claim omnipotence and untouchable; these make people to be afraid of them, as they constitute themselves as both police and the court of law, such that when one reports a case to them against another person, they would go for war on behalf of the reporter. They will kidnap torture and punish their victims; after which the alleged offender will be made to cough out huge sum of money.

THE PLEAD BY PEOPLE

People started coming to plead on their behalf; this made Fr. Ebube Muonso to visit them while they were still in the police custody. The Priest in his unusual magnanimity ordered his cook to prepare good dishes for them which they took to the station, not excluding the drinks and water bought on their way. The cultists were brought out when the priest got to the station; they ate to their fill, including the takeaway which everyone got a share of; after their meal, the Priest politely asked them what he did that make them to attack and wanted to kill him; they replied that they acted under the influence of hard drugs and narcotics; the priest at this juncture, told his lawyer to halt any court process and start their bail process. They were in the process when suddenly, their parents, sponsors and allies started blackmailing him. They took to social media and started dishing out untrue stories about him to cover up their crimes. The Priest of God has never been known for injustice; he always fight injustice hook line and sinker no matter whose ors is gored. They blatantly lied that the prestigious and well admired and respected priest is a land grabber, they claimed that they were unjustly accused and remanded while asserting that the priest took their lands, that made them attack him, in a bid to attract sympathy and cover their iniquities. From the information gathered from witnesses, indigenes and residents of Nkwelle Ezunaka, what Fr. Ebube Muonso said was the true state of affairs in the community; they equally said that they can now sleep with their two eyes open, since the absence of the notorious cultists disturbing the peace and serenity of the community.

THE PRIEST’S PHILANTROPY IN HIS COMMUNITY

The people attacking the prestigious priest of God are the same people he has helped on numerous occasion; no wonder the same followers of Jesus Christ while he was still preaching the Good News for the kingdom of God, where the same people shouting “crucify him” “crucify him”, they labelled all sorts of allegations and falsehood just to bring him down; no wonder God in Genesis 6:6, regretted creating man. For the heart of man is despicably wicked and evil.

The Priest has sent a good number of them abroad in order to improve their lives and that of their families. He has equally offered scholarships to so many youths in the community, including the siblings and children of the people after his life.
It is also quite unfortunate that Mr. Ebuka Obiozo who was one of the cult boys that attacked the priest, was one of the beneficiaries of the priest’s goodwill and human capital development, the priest of God strived so hard to lift him out of poverty, gave him money severally to pursue his dreams; how heartless some people can be; how ungrateful some people can be!

It is pertinent to note that Fr. Ebube Muonso invited international footballers like Emenike and Kanu Nwankwo to take him up in-order to enhance his football career. Why would they attack their own that has tried so much for them? I am yet to understand the core reason for the attack launched against the priest. Intelligence gathering revealed that they were doing the bid of their pay masters/ sponsors who want to take the priest down by all means, as they have done to others; let them also know that “A priest is not his own”, just like Christ; a priest is. So why touch the Lord’s anointed or be in the company of the people plotting to annihilate him for speaking and kicking against evil in the land?
Let them know that so many people have tried that in the past and failed; the priest cannot be intimidated by their attacks gimmicks, blackmail and antics.

SOLUTIONS ON STOPING CULTISM

The government, church, family and wider society have a lot to play to eradicate cultism in the land. The priest right from time immemorial has zero tolerance for cultism. The cult boys are into blood covenant; this made them to be so brutal, mean and wicked whenever they are handling people. The priest asserted that cultism should be given zero tolerance while the government should empower the anti cult security groups; while qualified and trained personnel be recruited into the anti-cult unit of the police force so that cultism will be tackled.

FIGHTING MORAL DECADENCE AMONG THE YOUTHS

The church and the family should go into partnership to fight moral decadence among the youths. The priest asserted that the church is doing a lot of work when it comes to youth reformations. He went further to say that there are catechism, services and formations in all the churches. The church can only admonish and preach against social vices and moral decadence among the youths; to always activate their conscience. But when it comes to criminal matters/ civil matters, the security agencies will take over, the priest said. Sometimes when you are making serious efforts to correct someone, you will notice that such person has become incorrigible and hardened; at that stage, the security, government and the law use corrective measures such as imprisonment to restore the person back to normalcy.

FR. EBUBE MUONSO FORGIVES THE CULTISTS THAT WANT HIM DEAD

The prestigious priest of God through the interview he granted to the media has forgiven the cultists that want him dead. He gave reason for their stay in the correctional facility as a means to discipline them and restore them to normalcy. Hence, they need to be tamed and made to understand that hooliganism, rape and other social vices are bad; as he prays that they do not stay long in prison, and for them to take corrections very fast and come out better and more responsible members of the society.

Our priests carry not only the full weight of our burdens but their own as well; it is our duty to always pray for them. We should guide against being a tool in the hands of Satan to attack or annihilate them. Priests are under attack from the world, the flesh and the devil; if they strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter; let us love them and always pray for them.
