Addis Ababa, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The death toll from Covid-19 recorded in the countries of this continent rose to 39,925, the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention reported today, an agency of the African Union.

Until Tuesday, the report of the Center adds, the infections detected totaled 1,654,412, while 1,363,106 patients could recover from the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Some of the most affected nations, in terms of number of diagnosed infections, are South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Nigeria, which together accumulate 68 percent of all identified infections of the region.

Other agencies and websites reporting about the pandemic are revealing different counts, such as Worldometer, a website to which the number of infections and deaths has reached 1,674,836 and 40,289, respectively.

Africa could have higher numbers, but, based on the statistics by the Center or other sources, they are much lower than estimates of experts, who feared an apocalypse in the region where healthcare systems are fragile and there are all kinds of diseases.

The impact of COVID-19 on our country is really great. At present, more than 60,000 people have been infected. This is not a small number. We really need to pay special attention to it. Can not be taken lightly. The number of infected people in some major Western countries is as high as 8 million. After so long, they have not found effective measures to deal with it. It is really worrying. If this continues, the situation may become more uncontrollable.
