WHY NIGERIANS SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURE.

Once an individual hears the word "agriculture" what automatically runs through his/her mind is probably an image of them tilling the soil or running after animals in a field; maybe and maybe not. Bringing it back to the three-dimensional world, you really don't have to do that, at all.

Agriculture is multifaceted and has an enormous range of career opportunities to choose from, such as plant sciences, technology, the food sector, and more. However, the massive food and drink sector has the farming sector as its backbone.

Agriculture is for anyone and everyone as we will always need agriculture. The population is growing exponentially which implies the need for more food and drinks. In addition to the food aspect, agriculture provides a good source of income as well as employment:

Agriculture is a high-tech sector
Agriculture has evolved from the days of peasant farming to a whole new mechanized farming which involves the use of high-tech machines and tools. Work here means every day will be an exciting adventure.

It employs you
Agriculture is one sector where you don't need a degree or qualification to get started. A qualification or degree is a plus if you possess them. This is because agricultural graduates are in very high demand and the diversity gives you a place that matches your skill and or qualification.

You enjoy the great outdoors
Not all agricultural sectors get to work in the great outdoors; a good number of them do.
We all know that nature has proven time and again to be good for your health and well being.
Depending on your job, some jobs allow you to live where you work as part of the perks that come with the job. Another perk here is the removal of commute (no need to move to and fro work since you live there).

Now the cherry on the cake, the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba, urged members of The Academic and Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to leave the teaching profession and consider going into farming, in his speech addressing the ongoing strike. He further stressed that more farmers are needed in the country to tackle one of the biggest problems in today’s society which is knowing how we will feed the growing population tomorrow.

A huge part of the agricultural sector is devoted to solving this problem, and if you’re part of it, you may well be making history.
Finally, as you ponder upon this, you should know that there is a job waiting for you in the agricultural sector, no matter what your skills are.
