Only when they failed to reach a consensus. Even before that, the dissenting countries will be convince and compelled to adopt the consensus candidate.

If it didn't work, then the member states will vote.

There's a reason it's two women who are the finalists. NOI being a black woman will likely win.
At these times everyone wants to form progressives.

Stop spreading fake news and also cooking up fake numbers and time.

There are 159 countries who are members of the WTO

Yor numbers does not tally 104+164= 268 countries

It's now obvious you cognitive deficiency.

I said "she scored 104 votes out of available164 votes".

How come you are now adding the two figures instead of subtracting?

To make it easier for you:

Out of 164, Ngozi scored 104.

Your South Korean darling scored 60 votes.

Again no country has veto power in WTO. This is not the UN.

According to Channels TV, voting is concluded and NOI was voted for by 104 out of 164 members.

Channels should be credible enough.

There is no score or vote.

Voting process is by consensus which The chairs of the three major WTO committees—the General Council (GC), the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB), and the Trade Policy Review Body (TPRB), known informally as the Troik meet with ambassadors privately to reach a consensus.

This is 3.06pm, where is the announcement.

Calm down.....

The Troika has informed the delegates who will easily get a consensus which is NOI but the US have said they are more disposed to Yoo Myung-Hee, hence, a meeting of delegate heads have been called for and the meeting is ongoing at Geneva as we speak.

The official announcement should have been by 3pm today if not the position of the US.

What is confused to hold on Nov 7 is this.....
Whomever is able to build consensus knows it is not Uhuru, as the General Council will have to formally assent before the announcement in November.

US Trade Representative. According to him, they are not sure NOI will defend US interests.

NOI already told the whole world that she will push for a multilateral trade system while US is pushing for bilateral system, an ideology Hoo also shares.

If by Nov 6th, US makes their endorsement against NOI official, the member states will vote.

AU, EU, China will never dance to the tune and dictate of US. Trump has already isolated US to command the allegiance of those countries.

Just to add,

The WTO has never voted for any DG-positionship. The beauty of the organisation is to build consensus.

Even in the year where this type of problem existed, the two individuals were allowed to serve 3 years each.

This is a battle of ideology

From both speech, each candidate are said they will reform the WTO

from what i have noticed, anybody the US supports is likely to win

Lies.

Adeshina case comes to mind. EU will not dance to US' tune.

AU has 57 out of the 164 members.

The Chinese bloc will support Nigeria, their largest market in Africa the same way they are supporting Nigeria's quest to clinch Interpol top job.

Its a done deal for NOI.

from what i read from bloomberg

WTO Panel Recommends Nigeria’s Candidate for Top Post

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-10-28/wto-panel-said-to-recommend-nigeria-s-candidate-for-top-post

From politico

the U.S. State Department cable signals support for South Korean in WTO race

and they wrote that the likely scenario will be

WTO General Council Chairman David Walker will announce at the HODs meeting that his consultations have revealed that one of the candidates is more likely to receive consensus and that the other has agreed to withdraw from the race. If that happens and no one objects to the remaining candidate, she would be officially selected as the new director general at the General Council meeting.

On the other hand, the United States or some other member could still block the remaining candidate from being approved by the General Council by withholding their support. In that case, the WTO would be at an impasse.

If Okonjo-Iweala emerges as the last woman standing at the HODs, the phones at the State Department and the White House National Security Council "will be ringing off the hook" urging them to persuade Lighthizer not to block her way, the former U.S. trade official said. That could even include a call from Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

I believe she would be chosen as next WTO Director General.
The WTO Director General is appointed by agreement of all the member countries.

"The appointment is made by a consensus decision of the General Council, which consists of all WTO members."

All countries have to agree on a candidate. One country can block the candidate.
The candidate can get the necessary approval from all the countries by lobbying.

The United states has a very big role to play infact the United states owns the Organisation, they are the ones that allow China into WTO

This is what Politico is reporting about likely scenario that will play out

Two scenarios: WTO General Council Chairman could announce at the HODs meeting that his consultations have revealed that one of the candidates is more likely to receive consensus and that the other has agreed to withdraw from the race. If that happens and no one objects to the remaining candidate, she would be officially selected as the new director general at the General Council meeting.

What you said isn't different from mine.

The Troika have informed the delegates today that NOI is more better to reach consensus than her opponent.

The US however is blocking it as they prefer Yoo.

The WTO who should have announced NOI by 3pm Nigerian time today, pending her recommendation from the GC (her employer) had to call for a meeting of informal heads of delegation to know how to navigate past the issue.

As I speak to you, the meeting is ongoing in Geneva. We don't know how it will go.
