BABATUNDE FOWLER: EFCC EXPLAINS EX-FIRS BOSS’ ARREST OVER FRAUD

Mr Babatunde Fowler, former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)’s shocking arrest and prolonged questioning has been explained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Babatunde Fowler, had returned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the second round of interrogation following his appearance on Monday and quizzing by the EFCC in Lagos for over seven hours after which he was allowed to go home late at night on the condition that he returns Tuesday.


“He was invited by the Commission and responded today,” EFCC spokesman, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday via SMS.

When asked for details of the investigation, he told NAN they were not yet available.

Reports said the former FIRS boss was undergoing interrogation at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja over alleged fraud while in office.

Fowler, it was learnt, is answering questions over a revenue shortfall at the FIRS as well as his alleged links to Alpha Beta Consulting, a Lagos-based company that helps the state government to reconcile taxes for a commission of 10 per cent.
